Just booked a b2b on Star in Jan 05, went to go look at hotels for the night of Jan 8th. None of the popular ones are available, am I checking too early? Or is some convention going on that weekend, any of you from South Florida know? Thanks

We're sailing on the CP on Jan 22, 2005 and through all my hotel websites I've virtually found the same thing. Not only that but the prices for Jan are much higher then December's.

We decided to take a 3* on the beach in Ft. Lauderdale and wound up with the Holiday Inn on the beach. We stayed there last year and found it to be acceptable. Much more expensive then our stay laste December that is for sure.

Have checked for many dates in the last 6 months and it seems that the most popular hotels are just not showing up no matter which date you choose. I know that Embassy Suites is now being used by Princess for their pre-cruise package so that pretty much ties them up. Even Amerisuites is not showing up as it is now being used for conventions I am told. Not sure about the others. Sure makes it tough to find an expensive place to sleep that night before the cruise though.

I found that for our Oct 24th cruise, this year. Boat show!!!!! I booked La Quinta/airport direct. If I had waited I know I would have got it for less, but I wanted to know I had a bed to sleep in. I do everything early, then I can just concentrate on the cruise.

Sue, whats funny is that we went last Nov on Grand during the "Boat Show" weekend, of course all the hotels by the dock were sold out, but we were still able to book Sheraton Yankee Clipper about a month before we went. This time hardly nothing is available. I did find room at Sheraton Airport Hotel but nothing on the strip (beach).

I'm glad you found something. I am already thinking of next year. It is just getting worse. Also quite a few shuttles that went to the pier and return are not doing the return to the hotel anymore, but will take you from and to the airport. We have a suttle to the ship, but got a van to bring us back to the hotel. We do pre and post. If I like this place I might just book it while I am there this year. You know you can keep looking. Something may open up on the strip before you go, and you can cancel this one.

BobBetty/PTJD - We'll be on Star with you! Keep us posted as to what you find for hotels.

Any of ya'll have younger ones? We'll have two teens and some in their mid twenties. No worries, they are well behaved. :-)

Looking forward to it!

bobbetty/jrtmouse I guess we will be on the same cruise, sorry no kids here, he stays w/grandparents while we go. I guess the airport hotels are available still, we will have a rental car so not a big deal, as toto2kansas remarked some cruise lines must buy-up rooms, I have never run into this before.

PTJD - Did ya like the Star Princess???? :-) HHAAAAA!
Anyway, you bring up a good point. That would suck if the rooms were sold to the cruise lines first! That's going to stress me out. I suppose I'll try and pull a Priceline out of my rear and see what happens. Should I try the Priceline thing this far in advance?

There is an AmeriSuites in Plantation. A little further out but restaurants near by, pick up at airport (you call when you get there) transportation to ship - no chargem just tipped the driver. Not the best by any means but fine for one nite. Continental breakfast in lobby. No restaurant on site. I think we paid total with taxes less than $100. The drive even took us to Publix Market to get our wine and waited for us.
The place was filled with soccer players and soccer moms.......

Northender, I noticed a lot of the hotels around Plantation are available, I did stay at one a few years ago, mostly business parks etc.. but I guess no worst than the airport locations.
Jrtmouse, Yes we have been on the Star but was Mexican Riviera out of LA, a little cold for us going out and back to LA, We prefer the Carribean. The Star itself was nice, this time we will have C753(back of boat) on this back to back.

I live in Plantation, FL and it's about 15-20 minutes to get to the pier. There's a nice Hampton Inn and a few other places near lots of restaurants and shopping. It will take you about 15 minutes to get to the ship and the hotels/motels will be alot cheaper than near the pier. I'm not sure what's going on in FLL Jan 05 other than it's peak season and people are planning ahead.
