Disembarkation time off Liberty at Galveston?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

First time cruisers, so have a few questions. How long does it take to disembark from the ship? We arrive into Galveston on Sunday morning. We have a late flight out of IAH (7:20pm) so are in no real rush to get there, but would like to know how long, as we need to arrange a shuttle to get us to the airport.

What time should we the book the shuttle pickup for?

Thanks for your help.

Off the ship and through Customs can be two different things in Galveston. Galveston can have long lines in the terminal. If you want to get through quicker I suggest getting a porter. The porter line seems to move faster. 7PM is a late, late flight. You will have hours of free time either way.

The last morning is not very fun. Vacation really ends when you go to be the last night! The smiles and service you've come to enjoy all week will be gone on departure morning. Rooms need to be vacated by about 8:00am. Since you have a late flight, let Guest Services know you would like a later departure time. The last departure group will be called around 10:00am or a bit earlier. Allow another hour to collect your luggage in the terminal and clear US customs.

I just got off Liberty on Sunday. They want you out of the cabins by 9am, not 8. You'll certainly have plenty of time to make your flight. Ours was at 5pm and it was a long day in the airport. JetBlue let us check in 6 hours prior, so at least we didn't have our luggage. As recommended here, we did use a porter to go through customs. Since we had cruise ship transportation, we disembarked just after the self-carry group, starting at 8:45. I think we were at Hobby by 11 or so. We didn't rush and weren't on the first bus to leave.

luckily for them Galveston is a very nice little tourist town all by itself so it would be easy to kill a few hours there.

If you have a few idle hours, the Bryan museum in Galveston is one well worth the time to tour the museum and its stunning collection of Texana. On 21st St not too far from the docks . Open Sunday 11 am to 4 pm. Only takes a few hours with a docent guided tour.
