Princess@sea messaging app

I'm new to Princess. How do I find out if the ship we're going on offers this (we're on Regal). We used NCL's app on our last cruise to text each other onboard and it was great.
Per the Princess website, Princess@Sea and Princess Messenger are available on all ships.

FYI because it isn't an app, it would be difficult/impossible to generate "push notifications" (what generates a vibration or rings) through the browser. I'm assuming that's a large part of why the web-based system doesn't offer notifications.

Chrome on windows supports Google Cloud Notifications.

(As do other browsers)

You can see this if you set up Facebook to receive notifications.

There are also plenty of demo/test sites that you can use to see

browser notifications.

If you use chrome, this is one:

https://storage-cdn.realtime.co/chrome-push/index.html

The problem with Princess@Sea notifications is that they use

Google Cloud Messaging for notification, but don't pass GCM

traffic to the ship.

You're absolutely correct on that

I'm pretty sure firefox on android supports notifications.

Of course princess isn't sending any that anyone can receive

whilst connected to their intranet, so it doesn't really matter.

  • 4 weeks later...

Before I started reading the different boards (and then finding this one) I did download my APP (Princess Messenger) to my phone (Aug 2016).

It then pops up with a message telling me:

Princess@Sea Messenger can only be used onboard one of our ships with Princess@Sea Messenger enabled. When you get onboard, please connect to the ship's wifi and click retry.

So, it is available but can't be used til you are on board.......

THEN I started reading the boards and here you all are with wonderful "how to" and "dos and don'ts".

THANKS

I previously was able to download the Messenger app but I just confirmed that it isn't available on the Apple Store because it's no longer necessary to use Messenger on the ship.

Got it - won't work even though I downloaded it.

Will just wait til I get on board and follow the instructions everyone shared.

Thanks.

Right. Just turn on your wifi on your phone/computer when on board. You will have access to the ship's intranet for the app.
