Shogun Posted July 24, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2016 Hi All Looks like Princess tours will have an advantage over private tours, with the introduction of new ticket system to limit tourist numbers to the 5 villages, starts next year, tickets will need to be bought on line and will be available as a combined railway tourist ticket, there is going to be a new app that will advise of numbers and tell you what villages will be closed to new visitors with out a ticket, appears the issue has been very high numbers of cruise ship passengers dropping in for a few hours then going away, the local council want to attract longer stay tourists, that use, hotels, restaurants and move inland to winery's no details yet of cost of tickets. yours Shogun
GweninTX Posted July 24, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 24, 2016 We are going next year and I have been trying to decide if we should buy a Princess excursion or a private tour. This may help me decide to buy Princess! Thanks for the info!
moki'smommy Posted July 24, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 24, 2016 I expect that this will be worked out in much the same way tickets all over Italy have been. The big tour companies, whether they book thru the cruise ships or independently will buy up bunches of tickets and the people who tried to do something totally "on their own" will be left standing in line or not get in. This is no different than the "priority" tickets in Florence to see the David or in Rome to get into the Vatican. If you do a cruise line tour, they have pre-purchased the "bypass the line" tickets. If you go on your own, you'd better know how to get those tickets on line in advance.

However, I suspect they will want you to pay up front for those tickets with no refund if the ship cannot make port. It is doing it totally on your own that you need to worry about personally getting those tickets in advance.
