Casino: Cash or Sign and Sail?

Most definitely. I initially charge my S&S card in the early part of the day. Then, if my winnings are down, I slip in some cash that I just so happen to have in my purse.

Then at the end of the cruise, I say “See, Hon, I didn’t spend hardly anything in the casino.”

I am sure I do this to fool myself mostly. :)

Even if you use cash in the slot machine, you need to insert your S&S card into the machine so as to get any winnings out of the machine.

Even when I'm throwing away cash in the machine, I still have my S&S card plugged in so that I can keep an eye on the "points." Someone else will have to explain the points b/c I don't really understand them.

We usually use cash, but as previous poster said, you'll need to use your s&s card to get whatever money is left over out of the machine.

We usually just put $100 in the machine, then leave it on our casino account to spend on the next machine or the next day. Just remember you need to cash out your account on the last full day of the cruise. You can charge your slot play to your S&S card, but remember any charges will go toward your room/cabin account. I just don't like the big surprise at the end of my cruise. (me-"I spent how much $$ in the casino?")

I bring some cash and charge some to my card. If you are going to play table games (poker, craps, roulette, etc), I've read that there is a small surcharge for charging that to your S&S although I have no firsthand knowledge.

As for slots, even if you pay with cash, still put you S&S card in the machine the entire time that you play. If you accumulate 500 points, the machine will give you $5 in free play. If you accumulate 1500 points, you are eligible for free drinks in the casino. At higher levels, you may begin to get discounted or free cabin offers for future sailings. You might think that you aren't going to spend enough to get these things but you could put $50 in and win $200, then keep playing with that money. That can go on all night. Basically you earn points every time you spin, regardless of whether you are playing with your own money or with the winnings.

Good luck.

Using cash helps me keep from overspending but charging means double points on the carnival MasterCard I link my S&S card to. I've done both.

One more thing about keeping your card in when you play is you get entries in the spin to win held on the final night. I got to spin last time. They asked me if I felt lucky and I said no. I was right because I spun whatever the "no prize" spot was. They gave me a bottle of champagne anyway.

I noticed in some responses that you can use cash in the slot machines as well as your S&S card. Is there an advantage to either one?

Hi Waterwatcher

To answer your question specifically the advantage to using your S&S card to charge your account and deposit in your casino account, is that you don't need to carry cash.

The money that is in your casino account can be taken out (cash) at any time. Of course your are reminded to cash out your account by the last night of your cruise, otherwise you would have to wait several weeks and they will send you a check for your balance.
