destiny217 Posted July 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 26, 2016 (edited) We have never used this promotion but my niece is interested in a cruise with her 2 boys (ages 9 & 7) for June 2017. Each time I have checked, all the dates for Caribbean cruises during the summer months have been excluded from the promo. Do the dates from mid-June up until Labor day ever get included? Thanks. Honestly I think this is a gimmick since the cost for the first two passenger is increased to cover the cost of the 3rd and 4th. I compare cabin costs for 2 vs 4 and NCL is still charging about the same for the cabin.

You have to monitor prices over time (as pieshops said) to know if they raised the fares for guests 1 and 2.
Two Wheels Only Posted July 27, 2016 #6 Share Posted July 27, 2016 There are times when the promo pays off. The problem is that the promo doesn't always counter the increased fares at peak times. I know that it seems like the 3rd and 4th aren't really "free" but good deals can be had. I've booked when they were free and compared prices from one week to the next. There was a difference even though passengers 1 and 2 were the same exact price.
Casino Comp Chick Posted July 27, 2016 #7 Share Posted July 27, 2016 (edited) I booked a haven comp last month when they released fall 2017/early 2018 for 4 people. I initially received a discount only on passengers 3/4 but last week I saw the dates became KSF. I called and had those charges removed so now the invoice reflects port charges & DSC only. The passenger 1/2 base fare has not changed. All in all under $600.00pp including tips and all 5 promos for a deck 9 H6. If you have a question about historical pricing you can always go fishing for a cruise. Edited July 27, 2016 by Casino Comp Chick

On more than one occasion, we've had cruises booked, and then called to rebook after KSF became available and saved hundreds of dollars. Our upcoming Breakaway cruise is an example. When we booked, we paid for all 3. When KSF was added to that cruise, we rebooked. Our rates for passenger 1 & 2 stayed the same, but we saved $499 on our son. TougherThanTheRest Posted July 27, 2016 #9 Share Posted July 27, 2016 I wouldn't use "gimmick" either, but would suggest pricing the cruise you like multiple ways. I've found KSF can be cost effective, but you need to know the base fate of what you'd purchase otherwise. With the never ending promos, for me, KSF + drinks saves the most, even if the "cost" for the first 2 is more than it would be otherwise. And to the original question, I can recall only seeing the KSF at slower times/locations. School breaks? Not so much.
khaide612 Posted July 27, 2016 #10 Share Posted July 27, 2016 It isn't a gimmick - it's just that the NCL site shows the average price per person. If you priced a cruise for 3 people, it would take the fare for the 1st & 2nd passenger, multiply it by 2 and then divide it by 3. Price the same cruise & cabin for 2 people and it is just the price per person. When you view details it shows Guests 1 & 2 at one rate & Guest 3 with $0. For instance, I'm looking at the Jade 1/8/17 sailing. If you price a B2 cabin for 2 people, the total is $2,325.50 ($1019 per person fare plus $143.75 per person fees). When you price the same B2 cabin for 3 people, it shows average per person starting at $679 ($1,019 x 2 / 3). When you pick the KSF promo, the total comes to $2469.25. The price difference between the 2 bookings is the fees for the 3rd person only. When you view details, it shows the price for Guests 1 & 2 is $1019, Guest 3 is $0 and then fees for Guest 1-3 are $143.75 each.

First time I used one it was Thanksgiving and a weekend cruise. Second time was a family cruise last week of August and 3/4th free applies so no gimmick here. That was Getawy for a week, so Caribbean on the newest ship last summer. Somehow this time I booked Dawn Christmas week, but honestly I think that's some kind of fluke. Maybe the combination of the port and ship (NOLA and Dawn) or just got the right agent and supervisor (agent put me on hold to verify even though I did not push). I also booked over 9 months out.
