new2cruiser Posted July 30, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 30, 2016 Hi We're 2 sisters in our 60s thinking of going to either Amalfi or Sorrento via the Ferry and back by train from Naples on a Sunday 9 Oct . Celebrity docks at 7 and sail at 6.30. We have enjoyed the Amalfi coast twice on private tours(Johnny M) Thinking of taking it easy and shopping for Limoncello sweets there and having a nice meal. We haven't been in Naples on a Sunday and we haven't taken any public transport in Italy, I am sadly illiterate in Latin. Many Thanks. ec
kuldalai Posted July 30, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2016 Both ferry and train timetables between Naples and Sorrento are available on the Internet . Simply do a Google search for Circumvusia railway and Ferry schedule Napoli - Sorrento .
Rare cruisemom42 Posted July 30, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 30, 2016 If they search for the Circumvesuvia railway they will not find it, as it is spelled "Circumvesuviana". Here is the link to the timetables from Naples to Sorrento and return: http://www.sitabus.it/en/circumvesuviana-naples-sorrento-timetables/ (No Latin required. ;)) Ferry/hydrofoil schedules from Naples to Sorrento are fairly easy to find online but I'm not sure if they are accurate for Sundays. (Some specifically say Monday thru Friday.) They may be less frequent on Sundays.
euro cruiser Posted July 30, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 30, 2016 (edited) Here is the current ferry schedule: http://www.alilauro.it/orari-e-tariffe?route_group_id=3 The last runs of the day are weekends only but are too late to apply to the OP. As you'll see you can depart from Naples at 9 AM, arriving to Sorrento before 10 AM. Personally, I would simply take the 4:25 PM return ferry. The train is far, far less comfortable and doesn't buy you any extra time, it actually costs you time. The last train you could reasonably take would be the 4:07 arriving to Naples at 5:14, allowing you sufficient time to get a metro, a tram, or a taxi back to the ship by 6 PM. (Train schedule here: http://www.eavsrl.it/web/sites/default/files/eavferro/Sorrento%20-%20Napoli.pdf) The ferry schedule is good through the end of October. new2cruiser Posted August 2, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted August 2, 2016 Super, many thanks for your kind help cruisemom and euro cruiser, just what we needed Looks like the ferry it is . We had a awesome time in 2012 with our tour guide. He was the owner and went out on a limb to show as as much as he could, hit all the spots and then some but it was a rush, we drove up to the ship 20 minutes before sailing ! So this time we thought we'll do just 1 or 2 places.:D

We are going to be in Naples for the day, Nov 2, from 8am to 6pm on the Prinsendam. Haven't found a timetable for train or ferry return Naples to Sorrento or along the Amalfi coast in November. Do the ferries run in Nov? Is the timetable listed elsewhere? Have done Pompeii and Herculenium so want to explore a bit more of the Amalfi area but not on a private tour. Prefer using public buses, trains or ferries. Advise please.
euro cruiser Posted August 2, 2016 #8 Share Posted August 2, 2016 Ferries run between Naples, Sorrento, and Capri year round but not along the Amalfi Coast. I've never seen them post schedules ahead of time, however. The Naples - Sorrento runs will be the same but without the last one of the day.
