Alaska - is a Royal Suite worth the $$ ?

Some friends of ours want us to join them on an Alaska cruise in August 06. We're already going to Europe on Constellation in July. We have CC class booked for Constellation but, we're thinking of splurging and booking a Royal Suite on Infinity for Alaska. If you've sailed to Alaska in a suite, please answer the following questions:

1) Did you actually use the hot tub?

2) How was the weather? Too cool to enjoy a private veranda?

3) Which side of the ship is best for Alaska?

Any info is appreciated but, those are the "big" questions for now.

Thanks!

I've been to Alaska twice and in a Royal Suite once but not at the same time. First of all, the outside jacuzzi has only room for one person. The weather is not predictable. On one cruise (on the Infinity), we had some very nice days and some cool days. On our second cruise, we had a lot of cool days and rainy days where we couldn't eat outside at all. I think that a Royal Suite is wonderful. You have a separate bedroom with a porthole looking out onto the jacuzzi. And, if it's not nice weather, you have a table and chairs in the dining area where you can enjoy your meal(s). We found that we spent more time in our suite because it was there and we enjoyed it so much.

I don't know if this helps you but if I could afford it on every cruise, I think that I would do it.

Been to Alaska twice once with a balcony and the next time on Infinity in a Celebrity suite. The suite is wonderful as I am sure the royal suite is even better. We enjoyed the separate bedroom and the bathroom is wonderful. The first time we went it was the beginning of August and was chilly and damp. We used the balcony for watching the glacier and that was great. The next time we went it was in the middle of July and it rained every day. That time we were in the Celebrity suite with the window wall. It was great to be nice and warm and dry watching the glacier. Whether a room is worth the price depends how much are you going to use it. I think if you want to eat breakfast in your room on a regular table, have a butler deliver your food, and maybe eat a few dinners in there it is well worth it. It is also good for parties. We had 40 people in there for a party one afternoon. All had a great time. Pat
