After boarding changing cabins

Do you mean you are changing cabins or changing the people in each cabin?

If you are changing cabins how do you know there will still be cabins available on your sailing to change to? If you are switching the people in each cabin just go to guest services when you board and they will take care of it.

Guest services does this often, many people book those who want Cheers in one cabin and the ones who don't in another. Then they switch once on board, very east to do.

I could be wrong, but the way I read it is they have booked two different cabins with four people total, two in each, and after they board they want to switch the people. I've read this is quite common when two people are drinkers and two are not, (Buy for one cabin) or even (not pointing fingers) people plan on sharing Cheers. I've read it's best to keep it under the table and just switch the sign and sail cards. Some people have said that they were then charged Cheers for the other two if you try and get it worked out at guest services.

Not sure how the Cheers thing works in this case, but they can't just switch S&S cards especially when getting on/off the ship and ordering drinks - pictures are attached and show up every time they are swiped. They can however get an extra key for each room and just go to whatever cabin they want to be in.

I was assuming they were all traveling together and when they needed to have the correct card to get into the room they would just use it. Obviously when getting off the ship they'd use the one they were attached to.

Won't work. What if the other one wanted to buy a drink or something from the gift shop or whatever? They wouldn't be able to because the picture doesn't match once the card is swiped. Bad idea. I would never trust someone to have my S&S card. Best just to either have the whole thing switched over or get extra keys for the other cabin.

What would be a reason for asking for an extra key? Honestly, I was thinking that when it came time to turn in for the night, they'd have the key they needed to get into their room. I made the assumption they were all friends traveling together.

Why should they all have to be attached to the hip and keep track of each other? When I travel with others, sure we do some things together, but not everything. Why make it more complicated than it has to be and depend on someone else? Just get another room key made. It is a S&S card that simply says "KEY" on it.

We did it when the boys had their own cabin but booked them with one adult in each cabin. We also had to move one person from my cabin to another before due to 2 people having casino rates. We had everything switched including S&S accounts so no need for extra keys.

It's really not that difficult. "Pretending" to be someone else if simply just for the fact of carrying around their S&S card seems just deceitful. Although it's not illegal that I know of and prob no one would know, I don't see why anyone would go through all that when there are 2 better ways to do it. I am not about to have to hunt someone else down if we are doing our own things and I want to go to MY cabin whether it be to go to the BR, get money out of the safe, or simply order a drink at a bar. Oh and I can see the fun if only a couple of them want to get off the ship and they forget to get their right cards and go to ding out. Or if they don't catch it going out, even worse, they won't be able to get back on the ship. No thanks. Do it the right way first and be done with it.

You're right of course, but as I said, my gut (and it could be wrong!) is telling me that doing it the right way would be to keep couples together in their own rooms and not try and beat the system to purchase Cheers. As I said, it's a big assumption I know, and yest I know what making an assumption makes me look like.

I hear ya. But I don't think Carnival really cares about that. At least they don't when it comes to booking certain rates when only one person qualifies and then telling them to switch onboard. In fact, it's encouraged by PVPs and CSRs. GS is very familiar with people doing this (changing cabins or getting extra keys) and it's no big deal to get it taken care of either way.

Cheers may be different and I admit that I don't know what would happen if they switch everything over to their intended cabins. I never get Cheers because there's no possible way I would get my money's worth without being in a coma . I don't like specialty coffees, energy drinks, or any of that other stuff. BB works just fine for me.

So if everything would get mucked up by switching cabins and accounts, then it's best just to get extra keys and keep those with so that everyone has access to their cabins at any point during the day or night.

I guess I should have explained better. This is a family cruise to celebrate my husbands life and give him a burial at sea (He was a ww2 sea going Marine and wished to have a burial at sea; we had over 70 cruises)

One of my daughters and I both won a free cruise. So when we booked we had to book separate cabins. My other daughter and her husband are each listed with one of the free cabins. So we want to trade so they can be in the same cabin.

We have other family members in nearby cabins also and nobody has Cheers.

thanks for your responses

regards Dot

Dotheyes, I have done this a few times. Firemanbobswife is right it's very easy to get the room cards switched at guest services.

Try to go as soon as you get on the ship and take care of it.

Dot, I had heard about Harry's passing and want to pass along my condolences. He was a wonderful, friendly man! I'm glad you are still cruising and hope the memorial service and ash scattering go well for you. Your Legend friends (2012) still mention you from time to time. We are on the "friends of cruise critic" section now, at the very bottom of the list if you want to pop in and say hello.

All the best to you, Dot.

My husband and I have done that when we've taken our kids and family along as the 2nd cabin. Rather than go thru the hassle of changing S&S cards just have 1 person from each room go to guest services and get a door key for each room. Yes, 1 person per room will need to carry 2 cards but it's a lot easier than switching around S&S cards which have the charging privileges and everything else associated with it. Also, you can use the luggage tags associated with the correct cabins so that the luggage gets sent to the correct room. JMHO

OK, so we do this everytime we cruise with my elderly parents. Not for the Cheers reason, but so we can all board together as Platinum. My husband and I are Platinum and my parents are not. They would be a nervous wreck and still be standing in the parking lot not knowing what to do when the shipped sailed away otherwise, also my dad can not handle standing in line for any extended period of time but is too stubborn to use wheel chair and will inflict pain on himself before asking for any help.

It is easy! I book me and my dad in one room and my husband and mother in the other. As soon as we board (all together) my dad and husband (doesnt take everyone, only the 2 people switching) go to guest services and ask for their sail and sign card to be switched. The redo my dads card so it opens the door to the room with my mom...and redo my husbands to open our door.. easy peasy... there one sail and sign card/key works just as it i supposed to.

My Carnival PVP is thr one that told me to start doing this a couple years ago when I was discussing options on how I could deal with the issues of my elderly parents.

My husband and I travel with our 3 children. I book myself with one child and he is in another room with the other 2. On the ship we then stay together in the room for 2 with the kids together in the other room. I do this so I can book on-line, it won't let me since the kids are all minors. I asked if we could switch or at least get an extra key so my husband could access our room. We were told no, everyone had to stay as booked and no extra cards. I have a feeling they could have switched us and that the employees we talked to were just misinformed but we didn't argue and stayed in the rooms as planned. My husband just had to wait for me to get my key out when we entered our room and my oldest son had to wait on one of his siblings to get in. The rooms were next to each other but not connecting. Next year we are getting connecting rooms so it won't matter since we keep the connecting doors unlocked.

Next time, don't take no for an answer. Twice we booked myself and minor son in one cabin and wife and other minor son in other cabin. We went to GS and requested two extra keys for each cabin. Yes sir, right way sir! We did not "officially" change cabins, S&S cards, etc.

Agree. They were just lazy or didn't know any better. It is done all the time without issue. If you have a problem next time get a supervisor.
