Revneal posted this link on the HAL boards, and I thought it was so funny that I had to share this Dave Barry column on cruising with all of you. (You do have to sign up, but it's worth it)

Dave did an even better (IMHO) column on cruising a while back. It was about a cruise on VOYAGER OF THE SEAS, which I had just returned from at the time I first read it, making it especially hilarious.

Because of its age it took some time to dig it up (eventually I found it using a combination of Google and a very nifty site called The Internet Archive which works like a sort of Internet time machine), but if I may say so myself I have gotten pretty good at finding obscure things on the Internet, so here it is, possibly my favorite Dave Barry column of all time:

I ate so much on my cruise they used me for the anchor By Dave Barry

Interestingly it dates back to January 2000, more than two years before I took the same cruise on VOYAGER OF THE SEAS! I obviously didn't read it beforehand; this is because we took the same shore excursion in Jamaica and actually fell for the same trick with the rope! However, my dad is obviously smarter than Dave Barry, because he only paid $5 for it !

Thanks, Host Doug, for another wonderful Dave Barry cruising column.
Thanks, too, CruznLiz for printing the column out to share. That's much easier than having to sign up for the newspaper! It is so funny, I think that any cruiser could relate to both of them.
BTW, CruznLiz, I lived in Saugus, before it was Canyon Country, when Valencia was starting out............it sure turned out nicely, according to my last visit!!

Desrtdrmr: We've been in Valencia nearly 19 years. Overall the city is well laid out and we love it. Unfortunately though the traffic is getting horrendous. (By the by, just returned from the Golden Nugget!)

What is the date of your Hawaii cruise? It is near the top of my "wish list" for 2005.

Hi Cruznliz,
We are booked for 4/5 - Island Princess.
Sounds like we like some of the same things.................if you are on that cruise, too, it would be fun to get together. We were actually planning to do an Atlantic Crossing or a Med. cruise next year, but decided to bag the hassle of the airports and go from the west coast instead!
