I read on here a while back ( and ofcourse didn't bookmark it) that there is famous military history somewhere along the Canada/ New England cruise. We're on Anthem of the Seas out of NJ Sept 8. We've cruised a lot but not north. My husband gas put up with my shopping so I'd like to find a Military history based tour. Any suggestions. You can post here or I'd really appreciate an email at carpool2ny at aol. Thanks. If there is anyone else that this interests let me know. We're Pam and Ed.

Halifax is full of military history. In addition to the citadel there is York Redoubt

There are several other historic sites as well but you may not be able to access them:

So you could certainly do a military based tour in Halifax.

Halifax was founded by the British to protect Boston from the French who had build the fortress at Louisbourg. Halifax was never attacked but was very busy as a naval base in the two world wars and served as a staging area for the allied navy in WWII.

The Halifax explosion and its history would be a good part of a tour as well.

I have emailed you my notes about private tour operators.

Hi Pam,

You've received a few great replies already for Halifax but if you go ahead and list your cruise itinerary here on the message board - I know you included your ship and sail date but people reply quicker with ports already listed - more info will be on the way!

New England is loaded with military history - I am sure that every single stop will have an option for your husband to do some discovering. Also, most of these places prove to be very fascinating - in addition to having shopping areas should you wish to stay behind - so you may be pleasantly surprised. Plus there are always gift shops ;)

Also, we suggest not including your private email on message boards just as a matter of personal security - you can edit your original post to remove it if you wish to do so.

Let us know where your cruise stops for more help!
