Sonora5 Posted August 23, 2016 #26 Share Posted August 23, 2016 Seems like there are several good choices, but I will weigh in on before of Rome in Limo. We have had good experience with them.
Rare kazu Posted August 23, 2016 #27 Share Posted August 23, 2016 Some hotels also offer a discount for transfers to Civi. One big plus on a private transfers - Italy can do "one day strikes". When that happens, the trains don't go. Our hotel warned us of the one coming the day we were boarding and recommendedwe move up our time as the private transferswould be swamped later (at a premium). If you can find someone on your roll call to share with, it's not that expensive and much nicer than a HAL transfer or the train - especially with luggage ;)
RMLincoln Posted August 23, 2016 #28 Share Posted August 23, 2016 I do not recommend the train from Roma Termini to Civitivecchia because of the very long walk within the terminal to the regional trains platform.... thought I'd never get there the day we scoped it out. It was encouraging to see the sign for the platforms that said they were another 400 meter, so at least we were going in the right direction. It was all flat and could be done ok rolling luggage, but too long for me. We went with the above mentioned airportshuttle.it . We also used them from the airport into Rome. Book carefully if Italy has world cup soccer match coming up, which can lead to those "one day strike", or even a few hours strike. Well publicized ahead of time. Stratheden Posted August 23, 2016 #30 Share Posted August 23, 2016 Another recommendation for Rome Cabs. We used them: Rome Airport to Civitavecchia Civitavecchia to Rome. Impeccable service and very reliable.

sos1720 Posted August 24, 2016 #32 Share Posted August 24, 2016 "(Really? You ended up in Milan or the wrong train ultimately ended up in Milan. Assuming you would have figured this out after hour three with no sight of water, port or ship?)" Haha, the express train to Milan is non-stop, takes 3 hours, we knew after the first few minutes. Italian conductors were fantastic once they realized our mistake. We got off in Milan, raced across the platform (with luggage) for the return trip to Rome. At Termini, we sprinted over to the port train and made it to the Noordam with no time to spare. An exciting travel day. We went to the Noordam library and looked at the map and shook our heads when we saw the distances we traveled that day. "Travel is not for wimps". I used to live in Italy so I know the distance you traveled. Good for the Italian trains on all counts - great express trains and still caring attitude when trouble strikes. We were on a local train a few years ago making whistle stops across the Po River Valley off to see an opera in Piacenza. Except the door would not open at our stop where we were trying to disembark, and the train sped on. We got off the train at the next stop and the station conductor just waved us on to the next train going back - no fuss, just a genial laugh. But that detour was only a few miles , not from Rome to Milan! Brava.
