willowvacay Posted August 27, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 27, 2016 Has anyone gone on the Railway Trail Bike and Beach Tour either independently through a local vendor or through the cruise line? We are interested in this tour and wondered if it was fun. We bike pretty frequently and often do so on vacation and this seemed better than just renting bikes and finding the trail on our own on our first Bermuda trip. Thanks! martinchem Posted August 27, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 27, 2016 This is something I am interested in too. From my research a couple years ago I found that the trails aren't well defined. Bermuda is quite hilly but I would think the trails should be kind of level if they were established for a railroad.
willowvacay Posted August 27, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted August 27, 2016 (edited) I was worried the trails would be poorly marked. I think we are gonna try the excursion and hope for the best! Hopefully we can hear from someone who has done it before but if not I'll let you know how it goes in October! It was the railroad bed for the former Bermuda Railroad less tracks and rr ties. I'm not sure exactly what direction you will take after you pick up your bikes on Somerset Island, but I have links to photos of the 3 segments closest to Somerset. The order is north to south: Somerset Station to Somerset Bridge #1 to 6 on map Somerset Bridge to Frank's Bay #6 to 11 on map Frank's Bay to Khyber Pass #11 to 17 on map Here's a map of the trail: You can also Google > Bermuda Railway Trail > Images for more pixs.
