NETSEG Posted August 31, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 31, 2016 The ship anchors in Villefranche, not Nice. The tender ride is about 10-15 minutes to the town. You can arrange transportation to Nice from there.

gagirl7143 Posted August 31, 2016 #5 Share Posted August 31, 2016 You can easily catch the bus to Nice at the very top of the hill with no problem. Just watch your time. Sent from my iPad using Forums
rovermanv8 Posted September 23, 2016 #6 Share Posted September 23, 2016 (edited) You can also catch the train to Nice easily and to Monaco in the opposite direction. We have just got back from our cruise and did just that. Edited September 23, 2016 by rovermanv8 Grammar
Sequim88 Posted September 23, 2016 #7 Share Posted September 23, 2016 We walked (and rolled) up the hill to the train station and took train to Monaco in the morning then to Nice (passing Villefranche) for lunch (Niçoise Salad of course) and touring then train back. Very easy to use the trains, even with a wheelchair. Pleasant surprise was light rail within Nice from city center to the train station.
cdwh1902 Posted September 24, 2016 #8 Share Posted September 24, 2016 In 2010, we were on the Brilliance and tendered into Villefranche. Had a lovely day in Monaco and Nice, where a storm quickly developed and played havoc with umbrellas etc. Upon our return to the ship about 3.30pm we noticed a ship sailing away into the distance..it was the Brilliance. What we had experienced was only the tip- there had been a natural disaster which decimated the port of Villefranche wiping out a number of boats (including the Police Boat) and the port itself. It was deemed unsafe for tendering and for the ship itself. There were 3,000 of us (passengers and crew) stranded on the dock. RCI quickly arranged for all of us to be fed and watered at the local restaurants and later they arranged for 40+ buses (from Italy and France) to shuttle us to Provence, about 4 hours away. We finally boarded the ship about 1am and the last passengers arrived at 5am. Everyone was safe and sound. Under such difficult and unexpected circumstances RCI did a marvelous job.
