kcellup Posted September 7, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 7, 2016 So just got our Alaskan cruise aboard the Coral Princess in august. This is my first cruise on Princess and my first non Caribbean cruise. The excursions on the princess site look very outdated and just wondering what people would recommend. peety3 Posted September 7, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 7, 2016 Outdated? In what way? I recommend the Bering Sea Fishermen's Tour in Ketchikan, JNU-700 (Whale watch photo safari) in Juneau, and a photo tour from Rainbow Glacier Adventures in Haines (from Skagway, ferry included), but I'm obviously biased towards photography-oriented tours. ;)
craftygrandma Posted September 7, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 7, 2016 There are other sites Princess, google shore excursions and Alaska shore excursions for reference. Juneau- whale watching or sled dog camps, Skagway-train, Ketchikan- Misty fijords. Also Mendenhal glacier. Unless you have a lot of OBC, you can do better than Princess. You are in US so no worry about safety. Enjoy your trip we have our 6th AK cruise with land tour booked next year.
Kamloops50 Posted September 7, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 7, 2016 Since we started cruising to Alaska in 2008. The excursions haven't changed much . They just tweek the excursions a bit or modify them. This depends on the price that supplier give them in the fall about 120 days before the first cruise. Eagle_and_hawk Posted September 7, 2016 #5 Share Posted September 7, 2016 We have three past cruises to Alaska under our belts and going back next August ourselves. The whale watching tours are usually recommended and enjoyed those tours. The last trip, we did the Toku Lodge Feast & 5-Glacier Seaplane tour where you fly over to the lodge and have a salmon bake. They had the resident bears that hung around the lodge to eat left overs, so got really good pictures of them.
paul929207 Posted September 7, 2016 #6 Share Posted September 7, 2016 From Skagway, the White Horse & Yukon Railroad was great. Passport required.
Whimsy Posted September 7, 2016 #7 Share Posted September 7, 2016 We just came back from Alaska. There are so many things to do in Alaska! Besides the princess excursions check out the ports of call section for private recommendations. There are also tour places right off the ship in all ports. We did whale watching in Juneau, a speed boat type excursion in Skagway after our Princess excursion was cancelled to a glacier due to weather conditions not allowing canoeing to the glacier, and a sea plane bear watching excursion in Ketchikan. Not a bad day in the bunch!
mrp4352 Posted September 7, 2016 #8 Share Posted September 7, 2016 I haven't done it through Princess, but I did the same excursion through Disney twice. It's a must do for our cruise next year. The flight is spectacular and you're pretty much guaranteed a bear sighting. The food is really good and the short hike that's available is easy and fun. denatravels Posted September 7, 2016 #9 Share Posted September 7, 2016 I second the "Bering sea crab fisherman's tour". It was excellent, but do not book through princess-- google it and book independently-- I saved about $50.
