And on Disney 12/10 to the East ( I know its the same ports but in the case of Disney the ship is the destination).:D What camera equipment do you use? SANDY BEACH Posted October 30, 2005 #4 Share Posted October 30, 2005 Great photos. Thanks for sharing them with us. I could picture myself in some of those exact spots. Isn't St Thomas beautiful at night. Just love all those twinkling lights on the hillside. I will be there again in Feb. Can't wait.
Scott Cyn Posted October 30, 2005 #5 Share Posted October 30, 2005 One of your pictures is taken from the bridge lookinbg at the helo deck. I thought there were no more bridge tours because of security???????
dsparku Posted October 30, 2005 Author #6 Share Posted October 30, 2005 There are about 7 or 8 bridge pictures-was very lucky to be in a small group invited on a sunday am tour-Captain Ioannis is great-some interesting facts- ship mostly runs on autopilot-the Connie has a spare engine in case of engine failure-they say they can change engines in 3 hours-top speed is 24 knots-ship crew on the bridge is all Greek and is very young yet quite proffesional and very attentive and focused on whats going on-it was quite an honor to be there. emcee207 Posted October 31, 2005 #9 Share Posted October 31, 2005 Nice pics! That is a lot of pics my friend. Question; the shot showing the Constellation berthed next to Carnival Glory in San Juan, that wasn't the Pan American pier was it? We've done the southern carribbean on the Constellation twice that leaves from San Juan and that is the pier they use. But this one didn't look like it. dsparku Posted October 31, 2005 Author #10 Share Posted October 31, 2005 We docked in Old San Juan.Directly in front of the ship up on the hill was Fort San Cristobal.I just now put up the rest of photos (coming into NYC).For those who said you wouldn't be able to get a good view of NYC,view the pictures.I believe that the Pan American pier is more near San Juan itself uptown. cruzingduo Posted October 31, 2005 #11 Share Posted October 31, 2005 dsparku, your pictures are wonderful! We have a few questions since we are doing the Connie on Nov10th: I see that you went to Atlantis, how did you get there? Did you take a tour from the ship or a taxi? Were you able to use all the facilities? Did you go to Freeport and Nassau? It looks like it from your pictures, did you go to the beach in Freeport? on your own or with a tour? We have been to St Martin a few times, and we have always shopped on the Dutch side and beached at Orient Beach. This trip we were considering going to Marigot to shop & lunch. Did you do a tour over to Marigot or go on your own? Did you go to the beach in St Martin? Thank you.
dsparku Posted October 31, 2005 Author #12 Share Posted October 31, 2005 Cruzing Duo, We went to Freeport $ Nassau-Freeport is still not recovered from hurricanes-note in pictures the Pier 1 restaurant damage-it sits at entrance to harbor-princess hotel and shopping area is quite damaged and all the hotels there are closed-tooka taxi to Port Lucaya for around $5 each-visted casino, marina, good shopping here and went on beach at Westin In Nassau we got a taxi to Atlantis-you can walk around casino and outside on grounds for quite a distance-they will not let you go to beach areas without paying-the pictures were all taken in the free areas.Plenty of taxis at the port-had no problem getting around even tho there were 5 ships in port-good shopping downtown-hats $5(nice ones)T-shirts 3 for $10 On St.Maartens we took the water taxi from port to downtown Phillipsburg-found a good taxi that cost $15 each(6 of us)-took us to Maho beach to watch planes then to Marigot to shop and then to Orient Beach to swim-waited at each stop till we were ready to go and took us back to ship-all for $15 each-his name is P.Thomas-cell phone is 599.552.7931- Taxi#133.Hope this helps-we do not do ship tours-just negotiate with cabbies Dave
parrothead1 Posted October 31, 2005 #13 Share Posted October 31, 2005 There are about 7 or 8 bridge pictures-was very lucky to be in a small group invited on a sunday am tour-Captain Ioannis is great-some interesting facts-ship mostly runs on autopilot-the Connie has a spare engine in case of engine failure-they say they can change engines in 3 hours-top speed is 24 knots-ship crew on the bridge is all Greek and is very young yet quite proffesional and very attentive and focused on whats going on-it was quite an honor to be there. Capt Papnikalou <sp> is one of the nicest men you could ever meet. He gave my wife, my 4 year old son and I a private tour of the bridge as we pulled out of Grenada last March. He made us feel like we were part of his family. We are currently booked on Constellation next March, and he told us that he would most likely be Master at that time and he couldn't wait to see us again. Hopefully he is still on board then. dsparku Posted October 31, 2005 Author #14 Share Posted October 31, 2005 Parrothead1 The picture of me sitting in chair on the bridge was taking by Capt.Papanikolaou-he even let me wear his Captain's hat-very outgoing and gracious man-we hope is still there next Oct when we cruise again. If someone out there knows how to reach the Capt.I would like to send him the picture. Thanks Dave
cruzingduo Posted October 31, 2005 #15 Share Posted October 31, 2005 dsparku, thank you so much for the info. In St Martin how did you get connected to P.Thomas? Did you do it in advance or did you meet him at the port? We usually do not do ship tours either, however in February we were on the Jewel of the Seas and it was a members cruise. They gave us a free excursion for the day to Orient beach including lunch and 6 drinks. We enjoyed it but did not have time left to go to Marigot. So we'd like to do that on this trip. dsparku Posted October 31, 2005 Author #16 Share Posted October 31, 2005 We took a water taxi from the port to downtown-walked up to him and asked what it would cost-ask for him or call his cell when you get there
zalusky Posted October 31, 2005 #17 Share Posted October 31, 2005 Cruzing Duo,In Nassau we got a taxi to Atlantis-you can walk around casino and outside on grounds for quite a distance-they will not let you go to beach areas without paying Thats not entirely true. We took a cab to Atlantis pretty early like 7:30AM. We immediately walked along the hotel away from the restaurant and out towards the beach. Nobody bothered us. We then played in the water for a while and then walked around the grounds from the beach towards the hotel. We saw the Aquarium out in the grounds area. As we approached the hotel we saw a lot of tours coming out. We then went in towards the restaurant and saw some of the aqaurium their. It was at this point we started to notice people checking for wristbands and daypasses. We never made it to the water slide and pool areas. The security guards must not kick intil a little later in the morning. The day pass was $29 If I remember right. We would have bought one but Celebrity only docked until 2PM. I complained it should have been a full day on my comment card. I hope you future cruisers do as well.
dsparku Posted November 1, 2005 Author #18 Share Posted November 1, 2005 We arrived around 9am-when we got outside to walk around it was around 10-at two entrances to beach areas there were guards checking-didn't mind since we got to see alot for free-Atlantis was only one of numerous stops we wanted to make-agree it was to short a visit-needed to Grand Bahama and stay in Nassau longer-noted such on survey card
