lele100 Posted September 10, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 10, 2016 I was wondering if anyone can suggest a really good rum that is available on Carnival. I have cheers so no problem with price. I should mention that we are going on the sensation so that limits it a bit no rum bar no alchemy no steak house etc. thanks for your help Sent from my iPhone using Forums
southbayer Posted September 10, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 10, 2016 On the Rum question, Awhile ago, Carnival said they would stop stocking capt morgan rum... I was wondering if that dumb decision was reversed ?
beachbum53 Posted September 10, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 10, 2016 Your best bet might be to wait until you're on board and ask one of the bartenders what they have in stock. Your favorite may or may not be available. Bacardi is fairly common, but there may be some other brands available. I happen to like Capt. Morgan, but if it's not available, it won't ruin my cruise. White rums, such as Bacardi, tend to be more common for mixed drinks than spiced rums such as Capt. Morgan.
swscruiser Posted September 10, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 10, 2016 If you are mixing your rum with soda juices or anything else it's really not that much difference in what you use except if it's white dark flavored or spiced. If drinking straight any special reserve like Bacardi 8, Don Q small batch or Cruzan reserve will be very good. Also very dark rums like Myers or Gosling will have a kind of molasses component to them.

winddawn Posted September 10, 2016 #9 Share Posted September 10, 2016 I was wondering if anyone can suggest a really good rum that is available on Carnival. I have cheers so no problem with price. I should mention that we are going on the sensation so that limits it a bit no rum bar no alchemy no steak house etc. thanks for your help Sent from my iPhone using Forums 10 Cane Rum, Bacardi 8, Bacardi, Bacardi Oakheart, Malibu, Apple Estate V/X, Gosling's Black Seal, and Flor de Cana are choices I know of. Also in common drinks, I've seen coconut rum, Patron Citronage, and Bacardi Limon used. And not every bar onboard has the same rums available. As someone else mentioned, it really depends on what you plan to do with the rum. If you want something straight up or on the rocks, that would be very different than what you'd use if you were mixing it with juice or soda. Carnival also has some other flavored rums. I do know Carnival does not carry Blue Chair Bay rum, but I wish they did. Especially the banana rum which is excellent on the rocks. Since you have Cheers, maybe you'll want to experiment and try some different rums and see what suits your taste.
Sixtytwo Posted September 10, 2016 #10 Share Posted September 10, 2016 Not trying to hijack the thread, but what is a good sipping (on the rocks) rum? I am a single malt scotch type and think a good sipping rum would be good. Any suggestions? Sent from my iPad using Forums
xbatt8 Posted September 10, 2016 #11 Share Posted September 10, 2016 For those who love Capt Morgan, I felt your pain. However, I have found that I really like Baccardi Oakheart. Maybe just a little sweeter, but it has a really rich oak flavor. I really like the stuff. Don't get me wrong, I'm still a Capt fan off the ship, but when in Rome... :) Also, if you ever get a chance to try Kilo Kai, it is by far my favorite spiced rum. Sent from my iPad using Forums As with single malt , personal preferences vary but here are some of my favorites: Centenario 25 Year Old Dos Maderas 5+5 Zaya Zacapa Pussers 15 Year Old Plantation 25th Anniversary Goslings Family Reserve Diplomatico 15 Year. In my opinion these are all stand on their own, add a splash of water or maybe one ice cube rums. I hope you like some of these or find others on your rum journey. I should mention that we are going on the sensation so that limits it a bit no rum bar no alchemy no steak house etc. thanks for your help Sent from my iPhone using Forums On the Sensation, you will probably find these dark/gold rums at most bars: Bacardi 8, Gosling Black Seal, Appleton VX ? (extra old), Myers, and a few others. If they still have it, Capt Morgan as well. As for Light Rum: Bacardi, some flavored rums etc. On the ships with the Rum Bars, and Specialty bars, there are several top shelf rums both light and dark. Cruzan Dark rums are my favorites. I found Cruzan back in the 80's while working in St. Thomas. I have been a fan ever since!:) While in Nassau, you might want to check out the John Watling's distillery at the top of the hill, a block or so to the right from the government house. It is a very good rum, but a bit expensive IMHO.

jacketwatch Posted September 11, 2016 #17 Share Posted September 11, 2016 Not sure what they carry but if they have an aged Mt. Gay from Barbados I would go for that. Also consider aged Cruzan from the V.I. When in port if you can get it at a bar or restaurant try Cuban 7 yr. Havana Club. Just take it straight in a cognac glass. Great stuff! :D
rtap23 Posted September 11, 2016 #18 Share Posted September 11, 2016 Caña Brava Rum is available via the fun shops and is a far superior rum then any other available on board. Professor69 Posted September 12, 2016 #19 Share Posted September 12, 2016 On our last cruise there was a rum sampler available at the bar. You could pick about 5 or 6 different rums. You got about a shot per glass. I think it was about $18.

Sent from my iPad using Forums If you can find it St James Rhum Hors d'Ages, from Martinique is an excellent sipping rum. On Carnival, most of the rums are really better for cocktails, IMO. Goslings Black Seal and Appleton's VX probably the better of the lot. However, for real fruity drinks and even for some of the craft-cocktails at Alchemy, by the time you've finished your second one, might as well be drinking Barcardi white. MasterMason Posted September 12, 2016 #23 Share Posted September 12, 2016 Appleton VX. Very tasty. If you ask at the casino bar, you can probably get a Long Island Iced Tea made with, along with swapping out maybe another 2 liquors like Hendricks Gin, and Patron Tequila. Give him a $2 tip, and he'll do it for you all cruise long. I've found that the casino bartenders are more "forgiving".
