I've Got The Roll Call Blues..anyone else?

I know my cruise isn't for another 114 days or so, and I know it will pick up, but the Roll Call for my cruise is currently dead. I know there are a ton of people cruising because it's some kind of Casino Premier cruise and it is virtually sold out already, but I'm lonely!

I want to talk about all the things we will do and try on the cruise, I want to discuss meet-n-greets, I want to make friends before I go, but right now, I'm basically talking to myself over there.

Anyone else got the Roll Call Blues? Will I survive until January?

In all seriousness, how do you pass the time without a Roll Call to obsess on? What keeps you occupied as you try to plan and prepare sans roll call?

Give me some of your best "while you wait" tips.

I've had one reply to the roll call I started for December. Maybe for a 3 day to Nassau folks will be too busy doing their own thing to worry about meeting other people too. But yeah, little bit blue lol. On our July cruise the CC M&G was cancelled due to lack of interest. I haven't had much luck with roll calls.

I'm sorry to hear that. I have been on some really great, LIVELY roll calls. I have made friends that I still keep up with and even visit from time to time.

I should count my blessings that I've had some good ones and keep my fingers crossed that this one will pick up in a couple of months. at least I hope so.

I'm with you! We sail in 9 days:D:D:D and the roll call never picked up. I got an email from CC saying that we did not make the required 25 people to have a meet and greet. Bummer:mad: And the kicker is that the ship is completely sold out. My roll call from the Breeze was on and popping for an entire year right up to the day we debarked.

I think the length of the cruise really determines the liveliness of a call.

The most active call I've ever been on was on HAL (I know, right???) 30 day Hawaii/South Pacific cruise on the Westerdam. It was thousands of replies, from planning excursions, to general silliness/lunacy (mostly me) to what to bring to what to wear to tidbits about the stops, it was lively. There are/were people on that call that I considered my friend and am still heartbroken over some of their deaths (RIP Bud aka Big Green & Virgil, Kakalina's husband).

We were going to repeat the same cruise on Princess until Karen got a new/better job w less PTO, that call too was as lively as the HAL

Some other calls on lines that aren't considered "god's waiting room" were actually god's waiting room.

Agreed though, how does time pass (especially at work) w/o a lively roll call? :D

I think I might cry just thinking about getting that email for my upcoming cruise! Well, consider this your makeshift roll call. i'll meet n greet you in spirit! when you get to the bar, raise a glass to the poodle.

I'm glad (well, not in a happy way glad) that we all can commiserate together.

I'd agree with this

I'm so sorry for the loss of your friends. it's so weird that even though you may "know" someone physically for a few days, you spend so much time getting to know them on line, so it is still a real loss.

The struggle is REAL! I'm having a very hard time getting any work done trolling through all the forums of CC!:D

Can I join in? Our cruise is in November, a 2 week Hawaii cruise and our roll call is much slower than I expected. I know people do go and post, but then there will be days or weeks that no one is there. On our last cruises the roll calls were very active. I need the roll call to keep me sane from work. I need a glass of wine...

I think its hit or miss....many cruisers may be first time cruisers not aware of these boards/roll calls....some people get geared up closer to cruise time than others. I think the lack of feedback on the roll calls bother the "Planners" more than others. The Planners like to go over every possible scenario with a fine toothed comb. There was one poster on another thread that said they booked their cruise 747 days in advance....I was floored....people actually book vacations over 2 years in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then theres who I like to call the "bubble people"....these are the people with the mindset of "I don't want to eat with anyone, I don't want to meet anyone, I don't want to talk to anyone, this is about me and my SO to make goo goo eyes and catch up". They belong in their own little bubble. :p Why they go on a cruise instead of an isolated mountain cabin is beyond me, but hey, it is what it is :D

I hear ya! Only 1 of the 3 roll calls that I am on, is semi-active. The other two are relatively silent right now. We're heading to Alaska next year and I am eager for people to start talking about everything from 'what to do and where to stay in Seattle if you're flying in early' to 'do I really need to pack mittens?' I'm trying not to be the one who replies to each and every thread that gets started, whether it's on these rolls calls or the other site... but it's so difficult because, like you, I wanna talk about it! :D

Are you on the Splendor leaving the 24th? Our roll call is dead!!! No fb page, even the roll call for carnival casino players only had 2 people sailing.

First and Ten, I'd have to agree with you about the planners/bubblers. I'm a planner. I don't have to plan down to the tiniest detail, but I have a plan A and plan B Always! you just never know. but I also enjoy meeting people from everywhere, getting to know them. that is also part of the cruise experience for me. I don't understand the Bubbler mindset, I appreciate that that is what they choose to do on their vacation, but I don't understand it.

"Bubblers"....I like that better than "bubble people"....Thank you pyro, I need to use that if its ok :D

It is so much fun to have a lively Roll Call group. On the last cruise that I went on it was just my sister and I cruising where usually we cruise with a group of friends. We were lucky to have made some fun friends via a roll call group. I might suggest trying that other fun social site, typing in the name of the ship and the dates and see if there is a group listed. That is how we meet all of these great people the last time around.

That is most likely "THE" problem.....that other site has grown larger than CC's RC. And that is very sad to me.....as there are MANY MANY folks who are NOT on that 'other site'......and I am one of them. It is too bad that people have migrated to a site that is NOT dedicated to just cruising and things like RC's. Back when it first started it was used as a divisive site that polarized the RC's....and in a way it is still doing that......kind of an 'elitist' thing and that makes me, for one, quite sad! It is destroying the strength of the CC RC's as OP is clearly pointing out. I have 3 future cruises booked, and all 3 RC's on CC are really slow and not much fun........:(
