While it is true you can order liquor from room service, prior to my last cruise I was told by Carnival I could purchase through a store. It is also the place you can purchase wine packages...not the table they set up.

I have read somewhere...I will do a search.

True, you can buy wine packages. You'll get a coupons to exchange for bottles of wine at bars or in the MDR.

Okay, so I believe this is the deal. If your ship has a formalities shop (if not it is the candy store) you can purchase cakes, wine package or a bottle of alcohol to be drunk in your room or balcony.

maldenmusic, the bottle of alcohol I am talking about is 3 or 4 times the cost of those in the shop you are talking about (that are held for you). What I am asking about are the bottles you can purchase either prior to the cruise online, through room service or the formalities/candy shop.

So here is why I want to know about the bottle and gift cards. I am planning ahead for the potential full transit Panama Canal cruise.

This cruise will be our 25th or more and we will use it as our milestone cruise. Since we would get 25% back in OBC along with $200 for Future cruise and $200 for shareholder benefit, we would likely have some OBC we can't use up so will purchase a gift card to use that up. We don't go in the casino so don't want to do that scenario.

Now the booze. On a cruise that long it seems appropriate to get a bottle of something along with a wine package or two.

Now if they would just open up that rumored cruise I would be good to go!:)
