Why was Explorer of the Seas 2 hr. late leaving??

Tonight we watched the Explorer of the Seas leave Victoria, BC 10 min early, but she turned around as soon as she left the dock and came back, then she sailed out, sat there awhile and came back again - several times. She finally slowly left 2 hr late. Was anyone on the ship that could please tell me what was happening?

They were conducting a magnetic compass check, doing 360 degree turns. A standard process for all ships periodically.

Thanks! I thought maybe the ship was having engine problems. Don't they use sextants these days for navigation?
