Anything in Amber Cove??

We've snorkeled all over the Caribbean--in fact it's our main goal of winter cruising. Next itinerary includes our first visit to the Dominican Republic, to Amber Cove (a new Carnival-developed pier/terminal, a la Costa Maya, Isla Roatan and Grand Turk).

Haven't been able to find out anything much about reefs or private operators there. Cruise literature mentions "60 miles of beaches" and alludes to snorkeling but no specifics.

Anyone been snorkeling there?

this was in my patrol area for many years and we'd do R&R stops in Puerto Plata

the beach we went to was Sosua

a bit east of Puerto Plata but the nearest really nice beaches IME

altho an avid diver at that time, DR was not a place I ever dove .... picken's were slim even tho Puerto Plata was a big destination of EU folks with several resorts and casinos

this pre-dates Amber Cove development. AC is discussed somewhat in the DR section of Carib' Destinations

a quick google for : "scuba diving sosua" does produce a few shops in the Sosua area ....

"Since 1988, Northern Coast has been exploring the coral reefs of the Dominican Republic’s north coast. If you are not staying in Sosua, don’t worry! We are close to Cabarete, not too far from Amber Cove cruise port

Discover the underwater world and visit colorful reefs – no experience required! Let our professional staff guide you through the tropical coral and marine life right on our doorstep"
