La Romana - Booking a local tour last minute at the port???

Often we just get off the ship and take a local taxi to a beach or pick up a local tour from the vendors at the port.

I have not been able to research much regarding doing this from the port at La Romana?

Has anyone done this, what are the approx. cost, and what did you end up doing?

Interested in a nice day on the water visiting an island and sandbar with starfish or just seeing the natural beauty of the coast? You'll find threads here on Seavis Tours and Pro Excursions Tours to Saona Island and the Natural Pool. They also offer land-based tours and ATV excursions.

Much better here to plan something than wait, and the Seavis Saona Island Special is a great day!

You can also taxi to Bayahibe and Dominicus, small fishing villages where you can also enjoy a nice beach and lunch. Best to find another couple to share the taxi if not taking an excursion. Otherwise Seavis and Pro E, which are are located on the beach in Bayahibe a short walk from Dreams will arrange your taxi for you. Very easy!

La Romana has no port, you get off the ship at a square of cement, walk up a dirt hill and into a open area with roof to the excursion bus parking lot. I did not see anyone but the bus drivers, no one selling anything or offering tours. this open area with roof would be a great place for locals to set up tables and sell some stuff but there was nothing like that. on the bus and 45min. late you finally see something besides trees and hills.

We actually wanted to go to a couple villages and give out stuff to poor kids, we did find a couple of guys that figured out what we wanted and it worked out good for us. The one problem is many of the taxi drivers didn't understand or speak English and we don't know any Spanish!

Many drivers understand English but not all because it's not a heavily visited port. But if you tell them Bayahibe or Dominicus they will drive you to these towns, just confirm the fare first.

Just noticed how old this thread is...lol
