Princess just cancelled a few 2018 sailings due to redeployment

I am looking forward to being on the first cruise after the Star's refurbishment in December. A number of California coastal cruises for late next year disappeared from my wish list and there aren't any to take the place of those cruises. Something must be up but hopefully a pleasant surprise.

We received the initial email a day ago and the new confirmation booking today. Our original booking was for February 2, 2019, on the Ruby 15 days to Hawaii from LA, and it's been changed to the Emerald. We have the exact same inside room on the Emerald and the exact same date, February 2, 2019.

If you're asking me, yes, everything other than the ship is the same. Same date and same cabin.

So, Ruby is being redeployed and replaced with Emerald. As I recall the ship are from the same class. So, what is the difference in the two ships? I was on both ships a while ago. So I don't remember seeing any/much difference between the two ships. Therefore what the change?

Ruby is doing the Star's Mexican riviera cruises from Long Beach. I was booked on the Star originally.
