Has anyone done the long hike tour? Th one that goes deep into the rainforest with a lunch prepared out there? We're considering it with our 3 teenage boys. How difficult of a hike is it? We can fairly easily do 4-5 miles. Just a bit concerned about the river crossings...how diffficult are they? And my boys wanted to know what the food is...sounds like fresh fruit and...?? Thanks for any advice or information you can share.

We've done it twice and would do it again in a heartbeat. Small group - max 6 people. When you get to the farm it's like heaven - flowers, plants, gorgeous. The hike has about 25 mi Utes that's strenuous, scrambling up hill, and over rocks and roots. Lunch is whatever is fresh and available. Levi's uncle grows it. It is vegetarian. We've had fresh grapefruit, fresh coconut, pumpkin dumpling soup, these delicious warm cabbage salad on wheat johnnycake sandwiches. That was my favorite meal of our trip last time we did it. It is served in calabash bowls, there is herbal tea. We got a tour of the farm, got to taste fresh stevia, relaxed over lunch, talked, got to know Levi's uncle. It will be food your kids are not familiar with, but it will be one of the best experiences of your trip. You won't be with a crowd of tourists. I highly recommend it.

We'd been looking for a hiking tour, thank you for this information. We'll try the long hike too. We were first here in 2011 and just loved the untouched beauty of Dominica. We're so curious to see how it's changed in 6 yrs.

I see that your post is from last year, but will post here in case you are still thinking about this tour or if someone else is.

We did a tour with Levi of Bumpiing Tours last week. Ours was the same tour as the previous post, but with Levi.

It was a fantastic day and Levi was a great and humerous guide. He had us laughing before we had even got into the van!

The day of our tour the weather was awful; very wet and windy.

We were unable to do the Champagne Reef snorkelling because the strong waves would have knocked us into the rocks that we needed to climb over to get into the sea where the Champagne Reef was. It was a shame, but we still had a wonderful day.

About the long hike that you are interested in:

Levi had a 7 hour hike that had wanted to do this, despite the weather and his concerns.

During the day, there was a tremdous amount of rain. We heard that shortly after our swimming in Titou Gorge it was closed because the water was too deep and flowing too fast to be safe.

Levi was worried about this long hike group and was phoning people to try to find out where they were. There had been a lot of flooding and he was worried that they could get cut off and miss the ship!

In the end, they finished the hike and caught the ship, much to the relief of us all who were worried along with him about the hiking group.

The weather can make all the difference between this being a good idea or not!
