Once a day room cleaning trial.

Oh, by all means, I agree with you. I don't think of this as a trial to get down to once a day service, but to try to save some work for the stewards if, and only if, the customer wanted to have only once a day service.

The stewards now have more cabins. This was not a benevolent measure to save some work for the stewards. It was a cost cutting measure.

They can have fewer cabin stewards and save the cost of housing, feeding, medical, travel, etc..

BTW: On my last month's cruise on Carnival Dream I chose evening only because we are night owls and often we do not get up until 8:30 or 9:00 a.m..

I started a thread a couple of weeks ago about this that had a large number of replies but it went off the rails and/or what I wrote was grossly misinterpreted.

Just remember that Carnival is a company whose main goal is to provide a return on investment to its shareholders. They are not a benevolent entity.

Take care,

Mike

Got off the Conquest October 23rd. We had twice a day cleaning without being asked. We didn't fill out any forms and we were not asked if we wanted once or twice a day. Also, we had our ice bucket filled twice a day. The stewards were great.

Next cruise is on the Glory for the Bloggers Cruise. We will see what happens.

Why would they not change the sheets? Are you saying they don't put clean sheets on the bed??

They don't change the sheets every day. Just got off a back to back and our sheets were changed before the second leg. The rest of the time they just make the bed, which is fine by me.

Easy solution.

Just like those little "Save the Seas... Save the Environment" little cards that most cruise lines & hotels use to let the customers who don't want to replace towels at every cleaning, to hang up towels instead of leaving on the floor for replacement. CCL could do the same cards, & for those cruisers who don't want/need twice a day service could leave the card to notify steward for only once a day. For the rest of us who's comfy with current twice a day, no fuss. Their option, without complications...

What are the time parameters for morning or evening service? On sea days we enjoy sleeping late. If we pick morning and decide to lot leave the cabin until noon, will we miss having our room serviced for the day?

The main problem with once a day is we like dry towels after a shower and usually will take more than one a day. Even if a person slept in late wouldn't they be staying up very late, when I mean very late, I mean after 3 or 4? and that could create the need for more than one shower. Now, if they would let us have access to the towels and ice on the same floor, once a day for room service could work for a lot.

We asked for PM service on CCL Dream with extra towels and ice. Both of your issues were not a problem for us as our steward was more than happy to supply these for us.

Allowing guests to choose online before their cruise would avoid uncomfortable encounters with stewards and prevent stewards from pushing once-a-day. It could also allow cabins to be assigned to stewards in a way that balances their workload. If everyone in an area wanted twice-a-day service, that steward could be assigned fewer cabins for that cruise, allowing the steward to adequately provide the requested service without working longer hours. That way, there's no guilt or resentment between guests and staff.

I think that is a great solution for both guests and staff.

Just got off the Glory on Sunday. Same service you got on the Conquest: no card, morning and evening service, ice bucket filled each time. Unless something changes between now and your upcoming cruise, expect good service on the Glory.

Off Splendor on Saturday. Wasn't asked and received service twice a day although the "morning" service sometimes didn't happen until around noon.

Others on the ship said they were asked to choose.

No bathrobe, though. Had to ask for one, which I received by the 2nd night.

No ice bucket. I received a bottle of bubbly from the casino, requested a bucket of ice and received it that evening.

Steward did tell me that he not only had the cabins along our hallway (on Panorama Deck 10 just forward of pool area) up to the spa cabins PLUS the same cabins on Deck 11!

I rarely saw him, but I don't need to see the steward. If I need anything, I just leave a note.

I was offered morning or evening service on the Ecstasy in October. Friends sailing with me were not asked at all and received service twice daily.

This above, and several other responses from other guests, tells me that it is a problem with the stewards. Carnival needs to address this with the staff.

So, you're going to punish the stewards for something that Carnival Corporate is doing? That doesn't seem right...

I'm not punishing anyone. If I get full service (2xdaily cleaning) they get full tips. If I get half service it's half tips. why would anyone over pay???

If Carnival doesn't like that they can always make the tips mandatory and non-adjustable.

How is that a punishment? You work half the time you did before and make half the pay you used to.

If I work at my job 8 hours a day and then my employer changes me to 4 hours a day my employer isn't going to keep giving me 8 hours pay a day.

The issue is that they still work the same amount of time they did before this program was implemented. They now have more cabins per steward.

Take care,

They have more cabins to get tips from so they can still make the same or more.

Why tip the same for less service? Not saying we would reduce the tip by half but would certainly reduce the tip by something.

I do agree. I have never been one to take out my dislike of a corporate policy by stiffing the people who provide service but I believe reducing the gratuities is the only way corporate will truly take notice.

Having fewer cabin stewards is lucrative to the cruise line. They don't have to feed, house, provide medical care or transportation to and from the ship to their home. Plus they don't have to pay the $120/month stipend.

Corporate is boiling the frog. For now they give you "options". I personally didn't mind just having evening service. However, when this becomes the norm then they just remove the options and it's once a day for everyone. At that point most cruisers will be used to once a day service and it will go unnoticed. For those who do notice, there will not be enough to matter.

Take care,

Mike

If they want to only do half the work, then they will only receive half the gratuities.

Once enough people start doing this, Carnival will rethink this idiotic policy.

Agreed but all of the new cruisers that come to Carnival will not know any better so they will be accepting of this.

Although I understand the sentiment of cutting tips I personally couldn't do it. What I would do would be to skip the additional tip I usually give them (typically $20 per steward for a 7 day cruise). Of course this would be after going to Guest Services and asking if the once a day cleaning is the new standard (it isn't).
