bv521 Posted November 16, 2005 #76 Share Posted November 16, 2005 We are booked on the Millennium and my travel agent called with the following story. The shipyard in France went bankrupt and Celebrity had to find another shipyard ~ i.e. they found one in Spain. We have been booked at the Silken Diagonal Barcelona for two nights and will board the ship on the 20th. We have also been told that we will get a 20% refund of our cruise fare plus a $200 shipboard credit. The ports of Marseilles and Civitavecchia have been canned. It will actually be nice to get on the ship refreshed and ready to enjoy the cruise with the jet lag behind us.

cechase Posted November 16, 2005 #80 Share Posted November 16, 2005 While we are not booked on Millie for the cruise under discussion - I thought that I would get my "two cents worth" in this thread. Celebrity was faced with a very difficult situation, and a situation not of its making. I certainly am of the opinion that the options presented to the Celebrity pax was quite generous. Normally, the credit would be determined by dividing the base pax cost by the number of nights on the cruise and then multiply that amount by 2 [the nights lost]. The 20% credit seems to be more generous. The free hotel and transfers or in the alternative a $250.00 credit for airline reservations changes seems also to be appropriate. That charge in our experience is usually $100.00 per pax. Incidentally, you will love Ville Franch, it is a lovely and beautiful area. And make sure you get to see Monaco, the Grand Casino, and the Hotel d' Paris [right across from the casino - and we recommend the Bar Americane and their house chardonnay.] Enjoy your cruise. rowmcvie Posted November 17, 2005 #82 Share Posted November 17, 2005 jtutak - yes, indeed! And there have been lots of people out on the bow looking around and hanging out. I think she's getting ready to sail. Woohoo!
hardingk Posted November 17, 2005 #83 Share Posted November 17, 2005 When is she supposed to leave?
robing Posted November 17, 2005 #84 Share Posted November 17, 2005 As I said earlier she needs to be on her way already if she travels at the same speed she used to get from Barcelona to La Coruna. Could be a close call. We will all be watching.

cdbaum Posted November 17, 2005 #87 Share Posted November 17, 2005 And if this drydock is similar to most others they will still be working on her while underway, probably 24 hours a day. They may even still be working in Barcelona and beyond since they lost some actual drydock days. I can't wait to see what she looks like. We sail on 12/11 and somebody will probably post some feedback by then. We were last on Millie in 2001 and she was virtually new then.

c-legs Posted November 17, 2005 #89 Share Posted November 17, 2005 hI, She needed 73 hours to get from Barcelona to LaCoruna on her deadhead move TO drydock, albeit with pretty rough seas on day 2, and being anchored off somewhere for a spell during day 2 as well..... If the new current plan to have her sailaway 20th at 2100, and '' ready to board'' by approx 1430 on 20th.....leaving LaCoruna at 1745 as she did means '' she ain't gonna make the plans''....!!! Any betting out there ??? I agree with previous posters: a lot of work is ongoing while she's at sea. A lot of the '' wrap-up//clean-up''work normally done by the time they commence embarkation will not be, and guests may witness a '' hard hat '' situation while they board Sunday.....That is, IF she's docked in Barcelona on time to start with...which, IMO, won't happen. Cheers CG

plasnewydd Posted November 19, 2005 #95 Share Posted November 19, 2005 Those new pods must be truly amazing. According to the Webcam log, yesterday Millenium was in Barcelona. Today she's in Martinique. Tomorrow she's in Nice. They must have put in some 25th century star-trek warp engines for the two overnight crossings from the Med. to the Caribbean and back again. Seriously though, I do wish X would re-instate visits to Fort de France, Martinique, French West Indies to their Eastern or Southern Caribbean schedules. We enjoyed our visit to this island on Horizon in 1998.
