Feeling Ripped OFF!

While on Mercury last month we were charged twice for the same drinks. The waiter had brought us the wrong ones, brought us the correct ones but did not cancel the original charge. We were on a B2B and had time to correct the error... it took nearly two hours on the morning of disembarkation. We did not give a credit card authorization... We read this thread before we left and paid in cash... having started with credits for booking on board and owning stock.

I will no longer use a credit card for a deposit..too many gremlins on board and in the computers...

OMG...I thnk I would have passed on the cost of the couple of drinks for the time equivlent of two hours fooling around with X for this issue... knowing I easily drop this amount into the casino in short order. Having said that, this is not meant to be Cavilier Attitude towards mistakes or rip-offs, which seem to possibly be intentional, and based on demographics of cruisers like me who don't want to take the time to focus on strife to correct cruiseline errors...which still no matter what doesn't make it O.K....

...Actually wondering if they bank on that....

Once again, I am all over these boards - and Celebrity is the only line where this seems to be a common problem. Makes you wonder.

I too have never heard of this. I have been on 17 fabulous Princess cruises, 2 RCL, 1 NCL, 1 Carnival, and 1 Windjammer and have never been overcharged.

I am off to Celebrity for the first time and I am thankful for this information-usually I just toss the slips. I will be ticked off though if it happens and I cannot get resolved instantly.

Errors are all around us. Do you check your grocery store receipt (preferably before you go to the parking lot). I'd say 1 out of 5 times there is some major error where a sale item is not correct etc. I don't think this problem happens only on Celebrity Cruises! And I do not think any of it is deliberate. Human error.

i wanted to comment/ask a question of the poster above who said when you considered the extra perks in suites it wasn't always more expensive to get a suite. As far as I know, the only "freebees" for suites on C class ships would be the T pool, and the bottle of champagne waiting in the room on any ship. Flowers? We didn't get flowers in a sky suite. They don't give you a free bar set up, so I don't know what the poster was referring to. Do you? The topic deteriorated to a comparison of Celebrity vs. more all inclusive lines wher you would not have so many charges on your final bill because drinks and wine are free. That i understood. What did I miss?

On a recent Celebrity cruise we checked our shipboard account partway through the trip. We saw a charge for laundry of $1200.00! We thought

what did we have cleaned. The purser gladly corrected the mistake. It is

important to check you bill each day for errors. You will not remember how

many drinks you had on day two if you check your bill on day eleven.

I think the little sidetrack about more inclusive lines was caused by my original post, which FC just reiterated, that going crazy over a couple of mischarges for drinks (or a towel) doesn't for some (including me) make too much sense. It is wrong. It is unfair. But it is part of life...just like pricing in the grocery store. Now, I appreciate that we all work hard for our money...and that the line isn't going to let you get by without paying for something (never gotten a free drink on a cruise, huh;) )...but it should be kept in perspective.

If a typical cruise costs you $3,000 and you have $750 in onboard charges, and then you have been mischarged for a towel or a couple of drinks, the math is simple: $30/$3,750 = .008 (.8%). Yes, if that happened to everyone for the cruise line it is some real dollars. But for me to ruin a cruise over a 0.8% error...while I am paying how much for that extra drink I really didn't need or put that extra $10 in the slots or blackjack table just because I was passing by or bought that silly T-shirt that I actually will never wear? It just doesn't add up.

Yes, I check my receipts and unless I see a real error (and $1,200 is a real error!) I just don't want to take all that time out of my vacation when I could be putting it to better use...in the casino or the bar or the spa or...:)
