alikt123 Posted December 17, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 17, 2016 We are due to fly from glasgow on 23rd Dec. to Dubai for the Christmas criuse on Fantasia.. But there is meant you be a major baggage handlers/check in staff strike at all UK airports.. The reprocussion of this could be massive, meaning delays, cancellations, no hold baggage allowed... what are people's thoughts on this.... sidari Posted December 17, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 17, 2016 Unfortunate timing but fingers crossed the strikes will be cancelled.
ospreycruiser Posted December 17, 2016 #3 Share Posted December 17, 2016 We are on the same cruise, but flying from Gatwick on 23rd, so we were also worried. Apparently the dispute is with Swissport so I googled 'Gatwick ground handling agents' and found that Emirates are using another agent at Gatwick. It might we worth doing the same for Glasgow airport, but of course it could confirm your worst fears.... Maybe very early checkin is the only option. vino123 Posted December 17, 2016 #5 Share Posted December 17, 2016 Yes We are flying Klm from our local airport Humberside via Amsterdam to Dubai on Friday. Really hoping we are not affected by the strike too. Hopefully the airlines will have contingency plans. alikt123 Posted December 17, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted December 17, 2016 worst case scenario, we will just have to take as much as possible in 2 carry on cases.. not ideal, but can always buy a few extras on arrival..
vino123 Posted December 17, 2016 #7 Share Posted December 17, 2016 Just phoned Humberside airport information desk and was told baggage strike will not be affecting our flight on Friday which is a huge relief. So to hopefully put your mind at rest i suggest calling your departure airport and asking them if your flights will be disrupted or not.

ospreycruiser Posted December 17, 2016 #9 Share Posted December 17, 2016 Although it won't affect us I am curious about whether you could claim for the cost of a few clothes or essentials from the airline or travel insurance. I'm guessing the answer would be no in both cases.
sandancer Posted December 17, 2016 #10 Share Posted December 17, 2016 I think most travel insurance policies exclude claims made for industrial action losses. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
vino123 Posted December 21, 2016 #11 Share Posted December 21, 2016 Panic over. Looks like they called off the strike. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/38386040 Now we only have to worry about the weather. Hope the forecasted high winds don't delay the fights!
