Steak tartare

Le Perigord top hit on Google: "Le Perigord - From $95 with Groupon"

Well, surely they are the last word then.

Should you care to investigate further, I believe that you will learn that Google results have more to do with the preferences of the searcher than those of the merchant....

Princess serves steak tartare at their Platinums happy hour. They have a different special appetizer every day in addition to standers. It's buffet style so you can scoop out as much as you like and they had the small toasts, cars, and chopped hard boiled eggs to go along with it. Similar presentation as caviar. The day steak tartare was served I availed my self of a sizable quantity. It was delicious. I did not get sick and never have from eating steak tartare. I like to call steak tartare beef sushi.

We regularly recommend our tourist friends to try Le Perigord.

That frees up the better French restaurants for real New Yorkers. :)

According to ZAGAT, you're wrong:

“White glove” all the way, this Sutton Place “bastion of civility” has been a “treat for adults” since 1964 thanks to a menu of “exquisite” French classics and an “impeccable” wine list, “served with grace” by an “old-school” staff; bien sûr, it’s a “splurge”, but still less costly than a “trip to Paris.”

Ditto-ing Jan: We're just off Insignia yesterday where we, too, had steak tartare as an appetizer in the GDR one night. That makes at least two O ships currently unafraid to offer it.

Was it as good as at Bofinger in Paris? Mais non! Not prepared table-side and no visible raw egg on top, though there may have been some raw egg in the mixture which would be AOK with me. Was it infinitely better than no tartare at all? Mais oui!

A repeat portion ended up being my dessert course. Yum! Better than chocolate soufflé.....

Interesting post - now you have me hoping that it is served on our March cruises on Riviera!

My standard is also Bofinger (Petit Bofinger actually). It was indeed memorable "avec frites".

Zagat is a wonderful guide for tourists and I'm glad you find them useful. We New Yorkers relied on the Zagat Guide until ~2005. I tend to rely on personal experience and word-of-mouth from my friends who live here.
