San Juan: arriving 2:30 same day as departure?

Booked on the Summit out of San Juan for November 2017. Looking at direct flight from Charlotte NC to San Juan which arrives at SJU at 2:30 pm. The cruise departs at 8:30 pm. Usually we arrived a day before cruising, but due to some family obligations we are considering same day flight/cruise.

Question: What is your opinion of taking a direct same day flight as cruise departure in San Juan? Flight due to arrive at 230, sailing 830.

Thanks.

IMHO, if you have to fly into San Juan same day, I would try to get an earlier flight. Although the cruise leaves at 8:30, if you have checked baggage, you will have to get that and then get a taxi to the Port. If there is any delay in your flight, you could have a real problem. And remember, you need to be on board 90 minutes prior to the ship leaving (7:00). I think you are cutting it way too close.

We are taking a cruise on Summit out of San Juan in April 2017 and our flight is arriving in San Juan at 2:10 pm for an 8:30 pm departure. Normally we would fly in the day before, but our schedules do not allow it this time.

In order to cover our bases regarding potential delays, we booked the flight to San Juan through Celebrity Choice Air. Cost was the same and if, for any reason we are delayed, there is some peace of mind in knowing we do not have to arrange transportation to the next port on our own.
