dng6325 Posted December 29, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 29, 2016 Hello! On our Jewel of the Seas cruise, we (2 adults + 2 kids) have the choices between D1 cabins 9584 (mid-hump), 9076 (larger balcony) or an E1 cabin 8102 (extra large balcony). The difference between E1 and D1 is about $200. Which cabin would you pick? Are there disadvantages to the angled balconies (ie loss of privacy or limited view). Also, will the cabins be extra noisy due to location close to centrum? Any cigarette smell since casino is in the open space below? Thank you! Clarea Posted December 29, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 29, 2016 Can't speak to Jewel, but we have had experienced the loud music and cigarette smoke from the Centrum on Brilliance, a sister ship.
Beachammo Posted December 29, 2016 #3 Share Posted December 29, 2016 There have been many complaints about Centrum noise on these boards for Radiance class ships. We always try to do aft balconies...... If those 3 cabins are available. I would guess you have other choices???
harola Posted December 29, 2016 #4 Share Posted December 29, 2016 Yes the centrum can be very noisy. I would avoid those cabins. We were in 8080 and that was fine but I would not take the first two cabins. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
dng6325 Posted December 29, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted December 29, 2016 OP here. Yes, many other cabins are available. I just thought the ones I mentioned would be nice as they have bigger balconies. We can't do aft balconies as these are only for 2 people and we'll be 4. Our itinirary includes Antigua, St Lucia, and Barbados and St Kitts. Is there any preference in either port or starboard cabins? Thank you! Thank you! Nope, there's no predicting which side will be better, whatever "better" means.
IBookHePays Posted December 29, 2016 #7 Share Posted December 29, 2016 If you can swing a Junior Suite, and 1100 is available, grab it! The balcony is a big wraparound and the cabin will accommodate 4.
KeywestK Posted December 29, 2016 #8 Share Posted December 29, 2016 I've been in the balcony cabins on the Radiance-class ships with the extended balconies at the end of the humps and enjoyed those larger balconies a lot. Yes, you will hear music wafting up from the Centum until maybe 11 p.m., but I never found it to be a problem. In recent years, the fire doors leading to the bank of elevators were closed in the evening which also minimized the "noise." For us it is a non-issue. The locations of those end of hump cabins were always a plus. I love the larger balconies. But if you require total quiet in the evenings, you should choose a cabin further down or up the hallway. karen s Posted December 30, 2016 #9 Share Posted December 30, 2016 I just got off the Jewel this past Monday and my daughters were in 7600 - the noise from the Centrum late at night is LOUD!! If you want quiet in your cabin in the evenings, avoid the Jewel hump cabins. I was in hump cabin 1554 and although not as loud as 7600, I could still hear the music late at night, earplugs were my friend. Karen

cruzgryphon Posted December 30, 2016 #11 Share Posted December 30, 2016 One thing to consider is the size of the cabin itself when considering the difference between E1 and D1. E1 will be about 15 to 20 sq. ft. smaller than D1 - basically the width between the 2 will be about the same, but you will lose some length. Just something to keep in mind. Desert Cruizers Posted December 30, 2016 #12 Share Posted December 30, 2016 (edited) Radiance Class ship, I try and book cabins between 6 & 10 rooms forward of the elevators, have never heard any noise from the Centrum. We book D-1's or a JS depending on the price. Edited December 30, 2016 by Desert Cruizers
caribou9 Posted January 28, 2017 #13 Share Posted January 28, 2017 dng6325: What cabin did you decide on? We are sailing Jewel in March 2017 in 8102. We purposely chose this cabin as it holds 4 and has a large balcony. I have minor concerns about Centrum noise. I always travel with ear plugs just in case. On our last cruise the balcony divider door made a lot of noise a couple of nights. I find it difficult to sleep in complete silence so the muffled music should be ok. ;)
Speedy55 Posted January 29, 2017 #14 Share Posted January 29, 2017 We are in cabin 1062 in March. Just wondering what the noise level will be like for this room and if we need to pack ear plugs.
kruise runner Posted January 29, 2017 #15 Share Posted January 29, 2017 (edited) Hi We were on the Jewel a few year ago. Our cabin was perfect for us . Quiet and not to far from the elevators Starboard 8252. No complaints from us. Friends were about 2 cabins down no problems either. Hope it helps. Enjoy your cruise. kruise runner Edited January 29, 2017 by kruise runner
