On Shore Experiences in Canada Requested

We've signed up for the M736 Quebec City to New York City with stops in Saguenay, Gaspe and Halifax.

Trip Advisor has me pretty well taken care of in Quebec City and Halifax. There isn't any information on Saguenay or Gaspe on the Cunard site, yet. Has anyone done either of these shore stops? Does anyone have any information that might be useful? Thanks.

We visited Saguenay on Azamara 3 months ago. It's a great sail in along the Fjord with Beluga whales to be seen. The people are hugely welcoming and very proud of their community but there's not too much to do in the town itself.

There is a seaplane and a helicopter which offer 30 minute flights

Hi

Halifax is very historical especially related to the Cunard Name.

Also contains history related locations connected to the Titanic especially the burial site of a number of the passengers and officers of the vessel.

The Maritime Museum also is very interesting on Shipping and Also Titanic Exhibit.

Great view from the Citadel atop of the city...

They also have a great walk alone the Seawall. Interesting shops for shopping.

We also experienced some good meals at the restaurants close to the seawall.

We took this cruise this past October and have booked it again for next October - with a continuation to Southampton.

For both Saguenay and Gaspé I recommend you peruse the Cunard excursions when they are available. There seems to be little in the way of independent tours in either port (unlike Québec City and Halifax), but of course there may be some.

Regarding Saguenay, it is regrettable that the trip up the fjord is in complete darkness. This is inevitable because it is an overnight journey from Québec. At least the trip down to the St. Lawrence is partially in daylight. Departure from Saguenay was at 4:00 p.m. and it was light until about 6:45. The excursion we booked was to the historical pageant La Fabuleuse. During peak season this is performed in French, but during the autumn cruise season it is performed in English on days when there is a ship in port. The staging effects are more lavish than any Broadway/West end musical or opera I have seen. It is well worth seeing (about an hour and a half with no interval) and transportation by bus is included in the charge by Cunard. For our next visit I will book a tour of the area.

Gaspé is reached by a 15-minute tender ride. We have been there several times by train but this was our first time by ship. We didn't bother with any tours and just walked around the town. A short tour of the immediate area can be purchased at the tourist office beside the landing stage. It is possible to hire a car but with the cancellation of rail service and demolition of the railway station (which was adjacent to the landing stage) the conveniently-located car hire is also gone. There was one at the airport. The most popular Cunard tours are to Percé rock and Forillon National Park.
