Visiting The Everglades and Lodging

So we are arriving in Ft Lauderdale on Feb 23 and our cruise leaves out of Miami on Feb 25. The four of us have never been to the Everglade. We will be rating a car.

1.Lodging- We do not need Beach lodging but want a nice safe area to stay in while seeing the Everglades

2. Ideas of what to see and where to go in the Everglades

3 Are there car rental recommendations near POM to return a rental car before the cruise.

Thanks

Take a look at the two La Quinta Inns in Plantation. Both are very nice (the one on 6th was just recently renovated), conveniently located just off I-595, close to two malls, a Publix Grocery Store, a Total Wine, dozens of restaurants and not too far from Sawgrass Mills Mall (if malls are your thing).

Rent from Enterprise, National or Alamo and you can drop the car at MIA and take the shuttle to POM. There may be another rental car company or two that shares that shuttle, but I'm not sure.

Everglades Tours are abundant...

http://www.sunny.org has lots of FLL area tourist and hotel info ;)

Hertz, Avis and a couple of others have locations in downtown Miami, close to POM ($10+ cab ride if they do not shuttle). National, Alamo & Thrifty offer free shuttles to POM from their MIA airport location. Or return the car to FLL and use a shared shuttle ($15 each) or Uber to get to your cruise (about $40)

Enterprise owns both Alamo and National, so they share in the shuttle as well.
