Belize or Costa Maya

We will be on the Magic next year. We have 4 excursions, but will only get off the ship for 3 of them.

 

We (3 families with 2 kids) want to do the Mayan Ruins.

 

Which port would you get off the ship? Belize or Costa Maya for the ruins? And why? We won't do any beach.

Thanks Crewsweeper. We have two in our party that don't want to do the caves, so that is a no go for us.

 

We wanted to do ruins in either Costa Maya or Belize, but can't figure out which. :)

My kids were 9 and 7 in October last year. We did the native choice tour in Costa Maya with the lunch at the Mayan house and they did pretty well. It wasn't their favorite day on the trip, but it went well enough. The ruins were pretty cool.

We did the ruins from Costa Maya. 2 hours on coach each way but decided the ruins were the most impressive of our trip.

 

Sadly we had planned to do the caves in Belize but they were flooded so we ended up with no trip. Hard to legislate for weather...

Went on "Lamanai and the New River Safari" in Belize when the kids were 12 and 14. The 12-YO declared it "best trip ever" at the time. His favorite part was speeding upriver on the motorboat, but they both also liked climbing the ruins.

This was on a Royal Caribbean trip and we booked through the ship. I was assuming Carnival would have a similar excursion.
