We will be visiting Katakolon this August as part of our eastern Mediterranean cruise.

This is another port of call we have never visited before.

We will dock at 08:00 and depart at 18:00

Any information on Katakolon would be appreciated, beaches, tavernas, etc.

How near is Olympia from the port ?

Is it easy to visit, we usually use public transport if possible.

Thank you for any information.

In the end of the pier, just before getting into Katakolon you will see guides with tourbuses that offer transpoirtation to and from Katakolon, f I rember right it was E. 15.- per person or slightly more. You will of course need to pay entrance to Olympia.

I donot remember how long the drive was, I think about 30-45 minutes.

Katakolon has little to offer in itself. A one-street town with a few bars and shops, and a couple of scrubby beaches.

The stop is for Olympia, which is about 30 - 35 minutes by rented car or Katakolon Express tour bus or (sometimes) train. Cost 10 -12 euros pp whichever way you do it.

You can go to the beaches.

The one with the most amenities ( restaurants, chairs, umbrellas) is Kouroutas. It's approx, 20km away.

The cruiseline offers trasnfer to the beach or you can just take a taxi.

I read somewhere that it should be around 70 euros round trip ( 4 persons).

If you want to go to the beach or perhaps the beach plus Olympia, you might want to consider renting a car. There are several agencies right in town (within a 3 min walk from the ship) and rentals can be quite inexpensive (we have rented for less than 50€ for the day.

Our go to agency is a small local outfit that has a web site at http://www.rentacarkatakolo.gr and their direct e-mail is diplasd@rentacarkatakolo.gr. There is also a nearby Avis agency although they tend to charge higher rates.

Probably the easiest and cheapest way is to take this ""train"" that leaves from the centre of Katakalon. One of the stops is on a beach. Stop there and take another one back to the ship. Check schedules with them. http://www.katakolon.org/tourist-fun-train.html

Great thanks
