Yesterday I spent most of the day in the Jungle of Jamaica. I went up to Chukka at Good Hope Estate (though RCL) for some zip lining and river tubing. It was really hot yesterday so the shade and slight breeze as we went down the river was nice. There was one other ship in town, Celebrity Solstice (I think?) so it made port a bit busy.

A few things of note in Falmouth:

  1. The area where you go for your excursions, is about a 10 minute walk from the ship.
  2. It can be very confusing to locate your excursion...don't be afraid to ask
  3. When you return, a security guard will board your bus to confirm you all belong at that pier...have your sea pass ready.
  4. If you get Mr Cool as a driver to Chukka...you'll have a blast :)
  5. The port area is busy with people shopping so it may take a bit of dodging to get where you want to go.

The bus ride to Chukka was about 20 minutes...and the roads are bumpy. Once we got to Chukka we were taken down to the river tubing first. Be warned you'll need to get a locker which is $5. The drive to the tubing, while rough, was fun. Our tour guides grabbed us some oranges from the citrus trees that grow on the estate. They were delicious!

When we arrived at the river tubing site, we were divided into groups of 10-12 people. We then boarded the tubes and gently floated down the river. It was very relaxing and calm. Only thing I would do over again is to bring bug spray as there were mosquitos. Our guide was very informative and provided us with the history of the area as well as information about some of the trees we were seeing. The tubes go through some "rapids" and i use the term rapids loosely but they weren't that big and were actually kinda gentle.

Once we were done the tubing portion of the day, we went ziplining. There were 5 traverses that ranged from short to long. There was just 3 of us so our guides gave us the VIP treatment. It was great! I will warn you, you are required to use your hand to brake on some of them and if you don't do it right, you will hurt your shoulder. I hurt mine yesterday.

Overall it was a great excursion! When we got back to port I did some quick souvenir shopping and then headed back on board to get in the hot tub. I think a ship of this size does a great job spreading people out amongst the decks...except for the hot tubs. They get filled up extremely fast! They could probably do 4 of the Cantolevers (2 forward and 2 aft) rather than the 2 they have.

One thing of note, I ordered room service for today on the TV, and it never came..I would highly suggest that you do both the tv order and the door hanger order just to be sure.

I can for sure get you Giovanis and Chops. I haven't taken any pics of the menus but those two are easy to get. Main dining room you're going to want to order the Pork shank day 2, the beef tenderloin day 2, the garlic shrimp and chicken Parma on day 3 lol. So good! I'll take a pic of tonight's menu

This is tonight's menu. It is formal night!

I like the freedom of travelling solo but sometimes you stick out like a sore thumb. I am currently the only one at my table waiting on others to join me and I look some what ridiculous I think. On the other hand...not as bad as the ones wearing jean shorts or casual clothing on formal night.

Hi Twister, looks like you are having a blast!! Do you happen to know if you book the Chef's Table on board if there is a discount? Not sure if we should make reservations on my cruise planner or once we are on the ship. Thanks!

Hello Twister, enjoying your review. What are people wearing for formal night. Are men wearing suits and ties? Should I bring cocktail dresses?

Thanks

I've seen guys from long pants and a polo to full blown suits tonight. Didn't notice any t-shirts or shorts, MTD@5:30.

It's been a mixed bag like Chandom said but there are still a lot of people who dress formal. You would fit in with a cocktail dress.

Well for sure you can't book it through your tv. I'll see if I can find out for you

You know, despite the fact that I'm younger compared to the majority of the ship, I am quite enjoying my time on this ship. I haven't done a lot of the on board activities for the simple fact that I needed the break to relax and recharge. That being said, there's many things to do if I wanted to participate in things like the casino or musical entertainment.

I will likely sail this class of ship again as it's not the party atmosphere that some ships are.

Since I'm doing my first solo cruise in April, I am really looking forward to your experience. Have a wonderful cruise [emoji2]

You know Cindy, as expensive as it is to cruise solo, this is a good ship to do it on. There are times you feel a bit lonely but if you're good at making friends then you'll be able to do things with them. I like to be alone a lot of times. I'm very socialable but can also be an introvert. I've quite enjoyed people watching from my balcony or reading my book with a cup of tea.

Following and I would love your comparison of the two ships, especially if you were in a standard cabin and not the exclusive suites on the Getaway, .My DH and I are loyal to Royal and the Oasis class ship is our favorite of all of our cruises. but always looking for other fantastic ships and new ports-of call to try. We have now sailed on all three "sisters" and are booked for the Oasis of the Seas this up coming Thanksgiving. Enjoy your cruise, I can't wait for your review.

These rooms are bigger. Norwegians were tight. Now I was in a studio cabin but still I did a cabin crawl then too and they pack a lot of cabins on that boat which means little to no space. If you have a balcony on getaway it will add to the experience.

I've been looking at Norwegian again but I don't think you can beat these cabins!

That's from my balcony. As you can see it's fairly spacious for one person. Add a second it may get cozy but I wouldn't add a third.
