I just bought Cheers for our cruise next week. Will it be already be encoded on my card or do I have to do something to activate it onboard?

It will be ready to go as soon as you board... Head to the nearest bar of your choice and they will put a sticker on it.

Hi When I purchased mine ahead of time on my last cruise it was on the card already. All I had to do is give them my card and pay the tax while in port. You should be good to go!! They did not put a sticker on my card. I always bring my confirmation that I did order just in case,,,, you never know lol

It will already be associated with your S&S card. However if you are sailing from Texas or New York (maybe 1 other state?) it won't take effect until the next day. So the first day you will have to buy individual drinks.
