Smoking and the Breeze Casino

Okay, I am a former smoker but normally I am able to be around other people who smoke. I just left the Breeze and I can honestly say the smoke in the casino was thick. The walk way through should be far away from the smokers. One side of the slots near the walkway was for smokers and the other wasn't. The bar usually has a smoking side and a non smoking side. I don't know if they had a large amount of smokers but they seemed to take up the whole bar area. I also had a lady bring her ashtray over to the slots that had a non smoking sign and no one came to tell her she couldn't smoke there. I really think the Casino should have smoking slots far away from the walkway but the bar is so close to the walkway it would be impossible to avoid the smoke without having to go to deck 4 and then down.

Not sure of a solution but just wanted to see if anyone else found it extremely smokey too.

My wife and I were shocked to find it that smoky. We had heard how good the ventilation was and did not expect to see it that thick around the casino not just in the casino.

We also didn't expect to smell it on almost every deck we tried walking down and on every deck around the atrium including the 11th where we were. :(

I keep wondering if I saw any of the CC members there at any time?

I was disappointed that there was not a Meet and Greet after signing up for it and hearing all about how we would have one. :(

I saw one lady and recognized her from her description on our Isla Roatan excursion because she had her 90 year old mother with her!

Glad I wasn't the only one that it bothered.

Was on the Breeze 1/8/17 and the smoke was pretty thick then. The entire seating area of the casino had smokers in it.

The smoking area on deck 11 is most of the starboard side (aft to pool area) and during the Dallas playoff game they just smoked everywhere on deck 11 both sides. The even let people smoke during refueling on our extra fog induced "Sea Day" in port. It's the most lax I have ever seen the crew on smoking outside smoking areas.

We just got off as well and made it a point to go up or down decks to avoid it. We also noticed a lot of people who moved ash trays from the smoking areas. My husband and I were eating lunch and a woman brought an ashtray to the table next to us, I loudly exclaimed that you can't just move the smoking area. She just looked the other way and we left. I am fine if someone wants to smoke but it would be nice if they had enforced the smoking areas more. We would have also gambled more if there was a bigger non smoking area.

* On another note, missed our meet and greet too! Good thing hubby didn't get sick this time. He just gave the ok for me to book another cruise!!!

We are on the Breeze now. I can say that tonight it was not any smokier than any of the other Carnival cruises we have been on, and was actually much less smoky.

Last night was a different story. Because of the wind they would not let anyone outside on Deck 5, so the doors to the outside at the Ocean Plaza, just past the casino were shut tight all night. Tonight, the wind died down and people were going in and out. I think that pulled much of the smoke out of the casino.

I usually find my clothes reek of smoke after being in the casino, but that was definitely not the case tonight. We spent a good deal of time in there tonight and when I got back to the cabin I realized my clothes did not smell of smoke at all.

I am a smoker, but I feel really sorry for non-smokers on ships built like the Triumph & Splendor. When you get off the elevator on deck 5, you are greeted with a wall of smoke, and have to walk through the casino and bar smoking section to get to the walkway. The only other solution is to get off on deck 4 and walk up.

Again, I know I contribute to the smokiness, but it has got to be frustrating.

Lax is the word for sure. I can't believe they were allowing people to smoke during refueling, that doesn't sound safe at all!

Wow, at least my encounter was in the casino, not while I was eating.

I think I have the okay to book another cruise too but this time my DH wants it to be with the grandkids. We saw many kids having a great time, I think he has a soft spot, LOL!

As long as smokers gamble they will allow smoking in the casino!I have heard of some other cruise lines don't allow it but the cost is more!!

You are lucky, my clothes and hair did smell like smoke. How were the seas leaving Galveston? I heard there were some really big waves and the wind was howling in Galveston.

Thanks, as I said I am a former smoker and it usually doesn't bother me but this time it seemed extremely smokey.

Just off the same cruise and even sitting in Ocean Plaza and listening to the music the smoke was heavy. I saw very few machines that were not smoking. I didn't spend much time in there.

Yes it was. I have never been that bothered by smoke on a ship.

I agree no one should be smoking where it is not permitted!!

Seas were pretty choppy for the first few hours after pushing off, and it was definitely windy! I think some gusts got up to 40 mph or so.

We are near Grand Cayman now and it's still a bit windy at times, but the water is beautiful.

That is so funny Janice B. Hubby says the same. He saw so many kids having a good time that he is telling me he wants to take the grandkids. They are moving from Oahu to Colorado Springs in July so he is sure we can make it work during their move. Lol Can't wait to see how this is going to play out.

Wish I could have done a B2B haven't been to Grand Cayman in almost 20 years.

What a shock for them, Hawaii to CO but a cruise might make it all better!

I really wish the cruise ships would either make the casinos smoke-free, or at least alternate smoking and non-smoking days. I know that people who smoke, tend to drink more alcohol, and people who drink more alcohol tend to gamble more. It's more of an economics thing for them.

I grew up with a father who smoked, a grandfather who smoked, a brother who smoked and a sister who smoked. It never bothered me when we were around so many smokers. After moving to Texas 27 years ago, we have zero friends who smoke, so we are far more sensitive to it now. My eyes hurt and I get a migraine around smoke. While I'm not a bit gambler, I might consider spending some time in there if I didn't have a migraine from constant cigarette smoke.

The absolute most annoying thing is when someone decides to smoke on their balcony even though it's not allowed! Ugh.

We don't smoke and didn't find it any worse on Breeze than any other ships of the line and certainly not as bad as any land based casino. I will say Breeze is a poor name for a ship that allows smoking indoors.

I agree. We have been on the Breeze twice and each time the smoke was bad. And of course here are always smokers smoking on the non-smoking side. As I recall, I did direct (in a nice way) a smoker to the other side one time.

The real problem, if you are a smoker, is that Carnival, like other cruise lines, have extremely limited the smoking areas on the vessels. In many cases the casino bar may be the only indoor location available for a smoker. I got off the Dream in early December, the weather was a little chilly for the first two and last day of the cruise. The casino bar was the only location a smoker could go and not risk the flu or a cold. This naturally results in a concentration of smokers. If Carnival could open up a section of balconies, say aft balconies on specific decks or some other aft sections, some of that concentration of smokers might go away. BTW, I don't smoke so I don't write from a self-serving state of mind.
