Evening flight out of Miami

We are trying to decide what to do post cruise. Our flight doesn't depart until 5:00 pm. Our friends' flight departs at 3:30 pm. We have been thinking about renting a car(s) and going to a beach. Can anyone tell me the easiest way to rent a car, easiest way to return car and get to airport and closest beach with facilities?

We had a late flight last time we cruised out of Miami.

 

We rented a car thru Hertz at the port. Office is located downtown but they have a free shuttle to pick you up at the port.

From there we went and spent a few hours at The Savoy Hotel on South Beach. The hotel sells day passes for $25. We had access to their pool, beach, towels, restrooms, on site restaurant etc.

Returned rental car at FLL airport where we were flying out of. Later that afternoon. Very easy relaxed day. As we could just leave our luggage in the rental car.

You could taxi or Uber to SB and use the day passes suggested above, or just store your bags at the luggage lounge and explore on your own.

Taxi from SB to MIA will run about $35+ -- you will need a mini-van/SUV cab for 4 plus bags or check into UberXL

 

Another option is the Miami Airport flyer bus for about $3 each: http://www.miamidade.gov/transit/bus-airport-flyer.asp

Thanks for the suggestions.! We have decided to take an Uber to the Savoy. They will store our luggage for $3 a bag.
