bdruzin Posted November 12, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2005 My daughter is 20 and we will be on the Sun Princess for the New years cruise. I'm just wondering if Princess has any activities for the 18-20 year old crowd since they get lost in the shuffle? Betty
cynbar Posted November 12, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2005 Theyn usually have at least a couple of meetings especially for this age group --- I've seen it in the Patters, although I haven't had children in this age group so I can't comment on anything specific. LARGIN Posted November 12, 2005 #4 Share Posted November 12, 2005 The 18-20 year olds can do anything the adults can except drink and gamble.. That means they can get into any bar and the disco and party until the wee hours in the morning
bdruzin Posted November 12, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted November 12, 2005 Are there any organized activities where they can meet people of their own age group?
LARGIN Posted November 12, 2005 #6 Share Posted November 12, 2005 Not really... But don't worry, they will find each other...
AZPam Posted November 12, 2005 #7 Share Posted November 12, 2005 This March on the Diamond they had a meet and greet for that age group the first night out that my son attended. This was during spring break with what seemed like a lot of that age group on board, but he said about 20 attended and most were girls. He liked that part! I don't think they ever had any thing else go on, but quite a few of them hung out together the rest of the cruise.
holidayathesea Posted November 12, 2005 #8 Share Posted November 12, 2005 Why can't the 18-21 y/os gamble? In the states they're able to at age 18!
LARGIN Posted November 12, 2005 #9 Share Posted November 12, 2005 What state are you talking about?? In Neveda and California the age is 21 even to be in the casino area...
sgriff17 Posted November 12, 2005 #10 Share Posted November 12, 2005 Why can't the 18-21 y/os gamble? In the states they're able to at age 18! Lottery is 18, gambling in a casino is 21!! However, on a ship - they can't drink until 21 - but Im PRETTY SURE they can gamble at 18. Im speaking from personal experience with my brother-in-law...he was 18 and gambled on our first cruise, then never had a problem on subsequent cruises. They did card him, but saw he was 18 and that was that. He could NOT, however...drink alcohol until he turned 21 this past year. There are plenty of activities - it just depends on how INVOLVED they want to get!!
MarsMc888 Posted November 12, 2005 #11 Share Posted November 12, 2005 I was actually surprised to see you couldn't drink at 18+ on the cruise - international waters and all... But I know it says specifically on the Princess website that gambling is 21+, too. -M
bdruzin Posted November 13, 2005 Author #12 Share Posted November 13, 2005 The drinking and gambling age in Montreal Canada is 18. Young adults should be allowed these activities.
sgriff17 Posted November 13, 2005 #13 Share Posted November 13, 2005 The drinking and gambling age in Montreal Canada is 18. Young adults should be allowed these activities. Well, unfortunately with Carnival (which owns Princess) it's an American corporation...based in Miami - so they go by US laws :( Our brothers up north can drink and gamble at 18??? Nice!!! So gambling is 21 on Princess?? That kinda sucks! I know on Carnival it's 18.
Rare Coral Posted November 13, 2005 #14 Share Posted November 13, 2005 I believe each cruise line sets their own ages for drinking - my guess is that they chose 21 so that they don't get high school graduation/drinking groups and to conform with what the majority of the passenger's rules at home are. After 9-11, RCCL relaxed its rules on drinking and allowed those 18 or older to drink beer (but not hard liquor)...I am not sure if they are still doing that or not. ========= For my own curiosity - I looked up RCCL's rules (different from Princess): Guests eighteen (18) years of age and older are welcome to play in our casinos (for all Alaska sailings, guests must be 21 years of age in order to play in our casinos). Guests eighteen to twenty (18-20) years of age are welcome to enjoy beer and wine (for all Alaska sailings, guests must be 21 years of age in order to consume beer, wine and any other alcoholic beverages). 2ndsailing Posted November 13, 2005 #15 Share Posted November 13, 2005 Our brothers up north can drink and gamble at 18??? Nice!!! Actually the drinking/gambling laws differ from province to province. In Ontario the drinking age is 19. In the mid 1970's it was 18 (it had earlier been dropped from 21). It was raised to 19 (can't remember when)18 year olds can buy lottery tickets, but I don't think they can gamble in a casino until 21. (although I'm not 100% sure on that one.) hmg Posted November 13, 2005 #18 Share Posted November 13, 2005 I'm pretty sure the gambling age in Ontario is 19 and is 18 in Quebec. My son goes to school in upstate NY on the NY/Ontario border and they've been known to head to Canada to donate some of their money to the local casino...;) It's good to know that they will let the 18-21 year olds into the club. Most of our cruises have been on Celebrity and my son is used to that cruising privilege.
geez Posted November 15, 2005 #19 Share Posted November 15, 2005 I forgot to tell you that Katie is 20 also, would love to meet your daughter. I know there are other 20 year olds also on this cruise so they should have a great time. If your daughter would like to contact Katie ahead of time just have her email me. Thanks Gigi Looking forward to meeting you.
Mandee Posted November 15, 2005 #20 Share Posted November 15, 2005 You can gamble in Indian caisnos when you are 18. As for things to do on a cruise, I'm 19, and I've always met a lot of people and had fun just going to the club at night and hanging out.
