Hsmama Posted February 1, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 1, 2017 so..... Am I right in guessing the Nugget trail is 'the' best view hike here? I see a variety of trails, and if the weather permits we'd like to explore them all (or as many as possible) what are the best---least,in order of choice? as far as enjoyment, views, etc.

Budget Queen Posted February 1, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 1, 2017 There is no "Nugget Trail". It is either Nugget Falls or Nugget Creek. I have done both. The one that "most" people follow is Nugget Falls, which takes an hour round trip. It does offer the closest view from the east side. Take a look at the trail map for the details. https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/tongass/about-forest/offices/?cid=stelprdb5401520
xlxo Posted February 2, 2017 #4 Share Posted February 2, 2017 Another vote for Nugget Falls... it's 0.8 miles one way.... double for a return trip on one of my visits... the trail was partially flooded from the August melt. not recommended with wheelchairs Photo Point is a shorter option. I think it was paved for wheelchairs. On a wet day... I prefer Photo Point. I also did the "Trail of Time". It does a great job of illustrating the glacier's retreat. Melinda Brasher Posted February 16, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 16, 2017 Also don't miss the tiny Steep Creek loop, especially in salmon season. I also did the Trail of Time. Short and nice, but not spectacular, except there was another stream crossing with salmon and I was the only one there for part of the time. Oh...and bear scat literally ON the trail. :)
