Disembarking on port days

Two questions: If a ship gets into port at 7am, what time can I expect to get off it? Do they let guests off straight away and does it take long? My other question is can I stay on board initially and get off later in the morning or is there just the one chance of disembarking?

If there are no delays, guests can usually begin disembarking within 30 minutes of arrival. You can leave the ship anytime before all aboard.

Thanks so much. Thinking it might be easier to get public transport when the bulk of the crowds have gone already and always nice to know I can off later if I sleep it out.

Typically a ship is cleared for disembarkation by the local authorities within 20 to 30 minutes of completed docking, when the ship is secured and gateways out. Most times on the cruises we've done the ship arrives early and the ship is cleared by the arrival time scheduled. On repositioning cruises like a Transatlantic it takes longer at the first US port stop as all must clear custom and border protection there.

You can leave and come back on board throughout the day in ports until the passenger all onboard time which typically 30 minutes prior to the sail time.
