Gopher1934 Posted January 5, 2018 #2851 Share Posted January 5, 2018 It might not hurt to call back when you get a little closer to the cruise date. If there are a lot of balconies we have seen the price to upgrade go down. With CAS, I once had an OceanView comped. I watched the prices and when the OVs (Cat OA) were within $20 per person of the cost of the basic balconies I called. They put me on hold and checked, came back and upgraded me for free. Of course, that was from OV to Balcony but the price gap could narrow from Inside to Balcony. It never hurts to call again;) Thank you for the advise I will call them again

nicole&darren Posted January 5, 2018 #2853 Share Posted January 5, 2018 Sailing on the epic march 24. First time sailing ncl and not sure how the bidding works. I received an email this morning for upgrades. We are booked in an inside and were offered a balcony or mini suite. Should we just go in at minimum bid or how does it usually work? I think the balcony minimum is $65 and mini suite is $95. Will these go lower at all? we are still 79 days out. Thanks!

LynneR_Summit Posted January 5, 2018 #2855 Share Posted January 5, 2018 I’m on the 3/17 sailing on the Escape. It’s a busy time with spring break. I have called 3 times to the upsell line. Here is what I’ve learned: They send out the offer to upgrade to up to 95% of the ship. You can be informed of your accepted bid up to 2 days before sailing. Ncl is very pleased with the roll out of this program. It has been a huge money maker for them (according to the person I spoke with) There is a complex computer algorithm that calculates who gets accepted. Including your original price paid plus the offer. They do not see the offers and can not flag any special occasions, etc. There have been numerous times that cabins have been sold the regular way (especially on popular dates) and no upgrades have been awarded. For me, we are in a large balcony. We were offered mini to all Haven (no spa Haven). I choose to not bid on the Mini. I did bid on all the Haven’s offerings. From what I can see there is no sure way to get what you want except to book at full price (not an option for us). Honestly, this is very frustrating, I hate the idea that they can tell you 2 days before sailing. I am a planner, you can’t plan based on that. Strange you aren’t able to bid on Haven Spa, there’s 14 available. Maybe those are just offered to those in a mini suite?

Lovelylady226 Posted January 5, 2018 #2858 Share Posted January 5, 2018 So here’s some shadiness I discovered. Currently the minimum bid is only slightly more than just upgrading to a mini suite. So some people who bid more than minimum will have their bid accepted and pay MORE than if they just upgraded. You pay more than you would by just upgrading through your agent, plus you don’t get the additional benefits. Awful
bernerlover Posted January 6, 2018 #2861 Share Posted January 6, 2018 2/4/18 Getaway OV to Mid ship balcony accepted my bid of $125 pp yesterday. Someone else in our group went from inside to family balcony $100 pp. Hope this helps! I believe each cruise is different. This one had lots of balconies left and only 3 OV and no inside cabins. amarvel Posted January 6, 2018 #2863 Share Posted January 6, 2018 This is the first time I'm using this new system, at what point do you hear if the offer has been accepted or not? And if it's not can you then go back and make another bed for a higher amount? Has anyone ever had their offer accepted if they only bid the minimum amount? If you get a "no", it's going to be too late to rebid, those get sent out when the process is complete. They play you a bit like ebay, they make you wait, you get edgy and up your bid whether you need to or not.

Okay that helps a lot, we're willing to pay a little bit more to upgrade so I won't put the minimum amount to give us wa better chance :-) Kind of a tough game they play! Sometimes they will let you know outright that it’s rejected. Or at least I have read as much. They will let you know up to 2 days before sailing, no matter what you bid. You can change your bid up to acceptance or rejection. What sailing are you on?

On my last cruise, I was never told it was rejected, it just was not accepted. The bid just expired. So don't expect to put a bid in, told it is rejected, and then bid again, and so on. The bids just sort of sit there, some are accepted, most are not.
Nath Posted January 7, 2018 #2868 Share Posted January 7, 2018 (edited) Sailing on the Epic TA 4/7 can't wait to see if the advantage upgrade program will work for us. Final payment (90 days) is tomorrow. We booked with casino@sea and already been able to upgrade from a BC to B1 and now M2. Hoping for an haven offer. Will post back if anything comes in. steffymi Posted January 8, 2018 #2870 Share Posted January 8, 2018 There are a lot of posts in this thread, and I browsed a few pages for the answer, but figured I’d just ask. Has anyone in a solo cabin ever gotten an upgrade? What if I were to call and ask for one? I’m less than a month out from sailing. Thanks! Have not heard back yet (but apparently no one on my roll call has either). Just know in advance that your bid gets doubled, which is in the fine print. So when bid $100, you are agreeing to be charged $200.

Christy jo Posted January 8, 2018 #2873 Share Posted January 8, 2018 Good question, I’ve been waiting to hear about an upgrade on Epic 1/13, and called Norwegian today to possibly purchase an upgrade and was told ship is sold out. My upgrade status still says pending. Good luck to you. Hope they have some rearranging to do and free up your upgrade cabin.
steffymi Posted January 8, 2018 #2874 Share Posted January 8, 2018 I haven’t received an email at all, and was wondering if it’s because I’m in a solo cabin.
