edcarp Posted November 14, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 14, 2005 I am meeting my Mother in San Diego for a Thanksgiving Cruise on the Oosterdam. She's 68, I'm 39. She's driving down from LA, I'm flying in from DC. She's going to pick me up at the Wyndham on W. Broadway, which I thought would be an easy meeting spot. Then I wanted to drive up to the cruise terminal drop off our bags, and then head to a parking lot (i've already researched them) to drop the car. My question is: Does anyone know if they allow you to pull up to the terminal and just drop off your bags? I recall doing this once in Port Canaveral, but I'm not sure if it's allowed in San Diego. Obviously, I am trying to save myself and her the trouble of lugging much from the car to the ship. Thanks, Ed
CA Cruiser Posted November 14, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 14, 2005 I have cruised out of SD twice and I believe they do have this option but why not just drive to the parking lot, park and have them take you to the port? SD is a small port and very unorganized and congested to me. The porters would not help us until the finished the debarking passengers. Here is a link that might have more info. Have a great time. http://www.portofsandiego.org/index.asp Teresa
Splinter Posted November 15, 2005 #3 Share Posted November 15, 2005 Yes, I have done this a number of times, although I am taking my car home and getting driven back by a neighbor usually. Just have your mother stay with the bags and get a porter while you go park the car. Be sure she does not go into the terminal though unless you can separate your tickets, as they will not let anyone through the door (even before registration) without a ticket. If you cannot separate, have her wait outside the door for you with your carry-on luggage. You can either do this or use the parking lot shuttle service as suggested above (if you are using a lot that provides a shuttle...not all do so).
