majorswife-

Fear not! You are going to have a wonderful time! We are on this cruise with you to Hawaii. We did it 2 years ago and loved it so much we are doing it again.

It has been my experience that people who are negative about cruises have never been on one. The number one thing I run into as an avid cruiser is "oh, you better hope you don't get sick on one of those ships!"... they don't understand that is a product of "slow media days" in my opinion :)

Several years ago we finally decided to try a cruise instead of our usual all-inclusive resort, and guess what... we have not done a land based vacation yet, and do not plan to!

You will love it... see you onboard!

I'm still trying to figure out how anyone in the world could imagine that you would be bored on your honeymoon no matter where you went or how you got there...

Well as I put it today.....to one of my daughters coaches..."my husband isnt bringing his golf clubs to maui on our honeymoon like you did, he's just bring his manhood:D " *sorry couldnt resist*

His wife is still mad at him about that 15 years later...

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I'm so sorry for being that rude.

I agree with the concensous, the negative people are jealous. In all my years of cruising, from the 1970's to now, the one thing I have never been is board.

And just incase the inroom links are not enough to keep you entertained, I packed a few of our favorite family games. They are all strategty and board gamed ranked for 12-adult, but we work them out to play with our kids. We'd love to be a little more challanged.

I also thought of you Friday night when we went out for dinner in a sports bar with Trivia. I wan the first roudand DH and DS won the second.

It looks like a bunch of us are meeting in the aft bar at 5:30. With my pale complexion and blonde hair I shouldn't be hard to miss.

Happy Honey Mooning.

MajorsWife - I have been reading your posts for a while now and I can't believe I missed that this is your honeymoon cruise! Congrats! Cruising or not, you are going to have the time of your life...and to Hawaii, no less! Enjoy your honeymoon as much as I did! My best wishes for a long and happy marriage.

I think that some people buy into the stereotype of the 'typical cruiser' - a retiree playing shuffleboard all day and eating at the buffet at all hours. DH has done a number of cruises as family reunions and they are a great example of the diversity in demographics of cruisers. Yes, retirees have more time and means (usually) to vacation more, but I think a lot of people are turning to cruising these days. Besides, older doesn't mean boring (I've worked with 'seniors' for a number of years - hate the word really - and there is nothing boring with age. I love my birthdays because they mark my progression of life experience. My Gram is 99 and I am hoping her genes transferred to me so I can have many years of excitement.) I'm really excited about my upcoming first big-ship cruise and I'm not quite 30 yet. There will always be nay-sayers but you go and have a fabulous time!

PS - I used to live in Phoenix for a time. I absolutely loved it and would move back in a heartbeat...moved back to the east coast for love....sigh :) Maybe someday I will get back to my beloved desert and get a view of Superstition Mountains....

Congrats again!

Let me get this: you are leaving on your honeymoon, you are going to be with your new DH for a week, and they think you will be bored! I bet you will find SOMETHING to do!
It must be a gender thing. I seem to recall that the other day Majorswife was fussing over which book she ought to take with her on the cruise. Now be honest folks -- how many guys would have made that a priority concern?:D

Sorry 'wife'. Couldn't resist. Read this one to your hubby-to-be, though, OK?

I find that the people that insist they would be bored are the type that

1. have to be constantly entertained while on vacation (they can't relax) or

2. don't want to spend significant time with their spouse (they would rather be doing something else).

But then again I have seen people who spent their entire cruise in the casino, probably because of #1 or #2 above.:D

Have a Great Honeymoon.

Majorswife, Don't listen to anything negative. I gave my son and daughter-in-law a cruise for their honeymoon. They loved it. They met many other honeymooners. One couple they met live nearby and now they are the best of friends. By the way my son was 24 when he got married and he never once complained about old people. Celebrity has a nice party for honeymooners and annniversary couples. I am sure if you want company, you will find other people your own age. I agree if you have friends who say negative things about cruising, just nod and change the subject. Pat

Our friend refused to come with us on our first cruise because he said it would be boring. We got home and slept for two days because we had done so much and he thought we were faking it. Some people think it's all ping-pong and shuffelboard.

It's more a fact that they don't know what a cruise is like. It took my wife 5 years to get me on my first cruise. I had the same arguements. I watched the Love Boat, it was a week long singles bar.

Boy was I wrong. I'm now a cruise junky.

People tend to talk down things they don't know about. Ask them if they have ever been on one first. Most people who have, love them. Yes, there are those who had a bad experience on their first cruise. But they are few and far between.

Plus, a cruise is different cruise line to cruise line. The experience you get on Carnival is very different from what you get on Celebrity. Norwegian is very different from Holland America.

Just tell them you'll form your own opinion.

Too true. We have told people we are going to Vegas or Disney World to have them say bluntly they wpuld never want to do that. Who invited them? It seems so rude. I'd never tell them that their cottage sounds perfectly dull.

IT IS BORING!!!

As boring as you choose to make it. I like a bit of boredom on my cruise...so while events are taking place, I'll find a "boring" place to sit, read, and people watch...after a busy year, selective boring can be so nice. Jill on the other hand will stay busy...

Ignore the "experts" and plan to have a great time...neighbour.

MajorsWife, we were on Infinity's very first voyage to Hawaii, and it was soooooooo incredible, we booked the very next sailing while we were still onboard.

Cruising is the BEST way to see Hawaii. What a wonderful honeymoon you're going to have, you lucky girl!:D

Totally agree with the bit of boredom...DH's job tends to stress him out and he's looking forward to a bit of boredom too! Me on the other hand..I'm never bored when I'm with him.....doesnt matter what we're doing.

Just got back from our cruise, and need to rest and relax from vacation! LOL!

Bored? Hardly.

Usually during the work week, when not on vacation, I'm ready to call it a night around 10 or 11 pm. On the CRUISE however we didn't really find one night where we were not busy until at least 1 or 2 am. One night was 3 am.

Bored? Nope!

Need to rest up now for our next cruise! lol.
