We only have time to do one of the tours mentioned in the title of this thread. Has anyone been to either of them or both and which would you suggest and why?

Definitely Waiotapo. A wonderful walk in the thermal park. Allow yourself about 1hr 30 to take it all in.

Rotorua or any thermal area equals sulphur smell some of the time, what I will say is that after approx 10 minutes you wont smell it any more as you get used to the smell.

 

I would also recommend Waiotapu this is where we take any overseas visitors that we meet on cruise ships.

We've decided to visit Waiotapu.

 

As for the sulfur smell hopefully it won't bother us as one person in our party has allergies.

I also recommend Wai-o-Tapu. It's amazing! I don't remember it smelling that badly, but there is a lot of steam in the air. It may be worth carrying scarves that you can cover your nose/mouth with if people are worried about being irritated by the steam/smell.

Keep in mind that this area was used for healing back in the day! The mineral-filled-steam is supposedly healthy and helps clean out your lungs!
