where does the cruise ship dock,and where is the nearest beach,walking distance?taxi?how much,thanks guys:)

Mayreau is actually a very small island that is more a beach day than anything else. The ship anchors, you tender in (hoping the seas are not to rough or they will cancel that day). You walk to the beach or you can walk up the hill (and I mean up) to the little village at the top of the island. Not much else to do.

Our ship docked offshore and we tendered on. It is a small island with a pretty beach but with awful restrooms (no running water - our ships crew came ashore to tend to this !)

There is a small market as soon as you are through the gates, but they are stopped from coming on the beach, so no hassles.

You see plenty of fish at the far end by the rocks.

 

We never did make the walk up the hill.

 

Our tenders were stopped because of sea swell and we were stuck ont he island waiting (without being told why, although we could sort of see why eventually). My 10 year old son burnt his face at this point eenthough he hid under a towel most of the time!

Definitely walk up to the top of the hill in Mayreau and enjoy the views of the Tobago Cays from the pretty little church. Take water for your walk. It's about 15-20 minutes including gawking time.

 

Walk down the other side of the hill - another 10-15 minutes - to picture-perfect Saltwhistle Bay. Buy a soft drink or beer from the folks with the coolers or from the resort. Have a swim in the silky smoothwaters. Walk back to the beach at Saline Bay.

 

Snorkel at either end of the beach at Saline Bay - the south end is calmer and closer to the jetty - you will see squid and colourful moray eels, as well as the usual pretty reef fish (doctor, tang, sergeant major etc.)

Thank goodness I didn't see any Moray Eels - I'd probably have paniced and drank have the sea ;)

I doubt they'd hurt me but I'd still have got a fright!
