To be clear, On Board Credit may be used to satisfy the standard "recommended" gratuity figure, it may not be used for tipping in excess of that level.

Perhaps I was lucky, but I was able to add unused onboard credit to boost tips above the standard recommended gratuity on my last sailing.

If you look at your bookings Guest Statement (the one from O before sailing, not the shipboard account statement) you might see that some of your OBC is refundable. That can be taken as cash so can be used for any purpose.

Re-reading my post I could have worded that better. Hope it did not sound like a reprimand. I intended it as suggestion ..."check your booking and see if..." I think I'd better go check mine now :)
