kevnick0814 Posted March 23, 2017 #29 Share Posted March 23, 2017 You're welcome. Hi Bob, I am coming to this thread late. We booked the Adventure from San Juan 2 weeks ago, while aboard Allure. Sails 4/14/18. Did something change in those 2 weeks? When is the Adventure/Freedom swap supposed to happen? Thanks!

Virtopia Posted March 23, 2017 #32 Share Posted March 23, 2017 I love leaving from San Juan - it's my favourite departure port now. I did the same itinerary on the Jewel in September 2013 and did the Adventure in September 2015. My next cruse is back to SJU in November on the Adventure again. I love the southern islands, especially Aruba and Curacao. I don't notice any little issues with the ship - it certainly didn't affect my cruise. Each cruise I've gone two days early to enjoy San Juan. Definitely book this sailing and enjoy! I'm aiming to book a Southern Caribbean B2B in spring 2019. mdrobtx Posted March 23, 2017 #33 Share Posted March 23, 2017 Last time we cruised out of SJU we arrived a day early and flew over to Culebra from the little Isla Grande airport. There's a car rental kiosk in the small terminal on Culebra. Definitely a good day OI. (on island). By the way BigHouseFootball, we cruise on AOS for the 3rd time out of SJU the first week in June 2017. Same itinerary as your planning and we've been to these islands many times. Including spending a week OI (on island) in Barbados, St Lucia and St Maarten. If you have any questions or something I can check on, let me know. Michael...... BigHouseFootball Posted March 25, 2017 Author #34 Share Posted March 25, 2017 Thank you all for the responses! Really appreciate it, and you have put any nervousness I had to rest. Does anyone know where the smoking sections on Adventure are? My wife has asthma and is sensitive to smoke so I'd like to get a cabin on the opposite side if possible. Also, and I ask this knowing that it changes and there really isn't a set rule, but does Adventure generally dock on the port or starboard side? The smoking sections are on the port side of the main pool and then the casino. I would get a room on starboard if at all possible. I'm not sure about which side they generally dock on but I think it changes quite often. I haven't really paid attention.
mixplix Posted March 25, 2017 #36 Share Posted March 25, 2017 we did this cruise on adventure in April 2015 and loved it. We are doing essentially the same cruise (3 out of 5 of the same ports as our first) this April on jewel. we loved it. mixplix
Rare shipshape sam Posted March 26, 2017 #37 Share Posted March 26, 2017 We have done 2 trips out of San Juan including Adventure. Many years ago. Will say on our cruises, there were lots of locals. Lots of Latin dancing at night, again on our cruise. We got to learn salsa and some other Latin dances! :) Had great cruise. Adventure was our first Voyager class cruise and it was great! Rare JamesEM Posted March 26, 2017 #38 Share Posted March 26, 2017 We have sailed out PR several times and really enjoyed going to the islands in the S Caribbean, however I would suggest checking to see if there is going to be a Quinciero group on board your cruise. Outlier617 Posted March 26, 2017 #40 Share Posted March 26, 2017 Thank you so much for this! I am so excited for our summer AOS trip now! We recently travelled on FOS and I hardly met anyone, as people did not seem to be terribly interested in meeting others. This is exactly what I would hope for on a cruise! I would say the passengers are less crazy, if you're using the word to describe unruly, rude or inappropriate behavior. I think the southern route draws less of a "mainstream" crowd and therefore less of the "crazy" because it is a more expensive trip than say, your average Florida cruise. However, if they meant "crazy" as in "Different culture than I'm used to because the crowd wasn't American," then yeah maybe. There were a lot more Caribbean people on our cruise, we met several from Antigua, a few from Jamaica etc, which I thought was awesome. It was fun to get tips for places to go and suggestions for good food. They were also a lot more social; inviting us to share tables in the windjammer for breakfast and always wanting to chat about what we were doing that day. On my Adventure cruise there was a big group, and they took over Crown Vik most nights. Expect for 1 night they were down stairs. They had the Vik completely hoping. Great ship. Just through dry dock late last year. Debarkation was nuts, unorganized and beyond hot. Bring cold water. No AC in the terminal. The D/E balcony staterooms on Adventure are all the same, beds by the balcony.

Alternating beds on Oasis and Quantum class. Freedom class is non-alternating, just like Voyager class.
