Port Everglades

Holiday Inn Express, within walking distance of the port although you cant walk to the port.....you have to drive in a car or cab but its a nice hotel

To clarify something that confuses some people regarding Holiday Inn Expresses in Fort Lauderdale...

The one that calls itself "Convention Center" is the one in the safe neighborhood that's a block from the port and less than 10 minutes from the airport with everything around it... http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/1/en/hd/fllcc

There's another one that calls itself "air/seaport" but IMO that's rather misleading as it's farther from both. It's also in a rather nasty neighborhood.

The best area for cruisers to stay is the SE 17th Street area. These hotels are all in a safe neighborhood less than 10 minutes from the airport and just outside the entrance to Port Everglades with dozens of restaurants, shops, grocery, drug & liquor stores as well as the very popular Water Taxi all within safe, easy walking distance.

The last 3 are the "budget" hotels...

Renaissance... http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/FLLBR

Embassy Suites... http://www.embassysuites.com/en/es/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=FLLSOES

Marina Marriott... http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/FLLFL

Holiday Inn Express "Convention Center"... http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/1/en/hd/fllcc

Extended Stay America... http://www.extendedstayamerica.com/hotels/fort-lauderdale-convention-center-marina.html

AmeriSuites... http://amerisuites.com/reservations/locationdetail.asp?facid=3929

AmeriSuites is cheaper on Valuetrips... http://www.valuetrips.com/AMS/FL/F17.htm

The OP mentioned "parking"... If you're looking for someplace other than the covered garages at Port Everglades to leave your car, yes you can leave it at AmeriSuites, but that's an unsecured, open lot.

A less expensive, but secure alternative to Port Everglades parking is Park 'n Fly, at the I-595 entrance to Port Everglades... http://www.pnf.com/ftlauderdale/porteverglades.htm

Trent- Thanks again for all the valuable information you provide about Fort Lauderdale. One question: How do you go about using the water taxi? Like from, say, the Embassy Suites; where do you go and how do you do it?

Thanks!

Amerisuites 17 ave. is great. The rooms are very nice. You get a minifridge, microwave, etc. The continental breakfast is good. They have eggs and a waffle maker. The best feature is the free shuttle. You can park your car and leave it there as long as you like. I think they call it "Park & Fly". It will save you a ton of money since the port garage charges $25 bucks a day.

From Embassy Suites walk east on SE 17th Street to the Intracoastal. The Water Taxi stop is under the bridge right in front of the Marina Marriott... http://www.watertaxi.com/FortLauderdale/FLLStop10.Asp

You pay the fare when you get on, it's $5 one way, or $7 for an all day pass. They also have multi-day passes that are even better deals if you're here for more than a day.

The route map and schedules are on their website. It's a great way to get around and get a very cheap tour at the same time... http://www.watertaxi.com/FortLauderdale/FLLHome.Asp

HI,

I visited Port Everglades in September.

I booked the Renaissance at priceline.com for 69.00 a night. I was very pleased with the hotel and the grounds, I'm a nurse everything MUST be clean. Not to mention the location. Across the street was CVS for a few last minute items. On the corner to the left (at parking garage entrance) was a SPECTACULAR DELICIOUS French Bakery. We had a wonderful breakfast the morning of departure. I HIGHLY recommend anyone staying there to find this bakery.

The water taxi was a two block walk. We had dinner at the 15th street Fishery, again, Delicious food and highly recommended by locals. You know it's good when the locals recommend it. Then we just rode the taxi after dinner for a bit up and down the causeway. Very nice ride although our taxi driver was a bit over zealous with the steering mechanism. Hahhahahha

When it was time to head to the Ship, we drove less than a block, parked and there we were.

For any ladies or Divers, there is a shopping center back to the right on the left hand side of the road, about two blocks up that has a wonderful dive shop and Nail Salon. I had to purchase a pair of fins at the last minute, nice selection and prices. As for the Nail Salon, I grabbed a quick Manicure and Pedicure before boarding and let me tell you, that was the best 50 bucks I have ever spent on those services.

Enjoy
